Alita Van Hee
Fallen Angels
Ceramic Sculpture
9” x 9” x 5” Main Sculpture
$600

Alita Van Hee Statement:
I was inspired to create this piece by the notion of corrupt gurus. The large figure represents a “fallen angel” or guru who has abused their power. The smaller pieces are supposed to be followers. While conceiving this piece, I was also reflecting on a recent news item I saw about the Dalai Lama. His inappropriate behavior with a small boy at a public event shocked me. I began to question his validity as a spiritual leader (although later I learned a cultural misunderstanding may have been to blame). The wings on the pieces could represent tongues, inspired by this incident. There can be a fine line between spiritual leaders and charlatans. I am fascinated by how seemingly ordinary people are elevated to saintly status.
