About:

The Ursa Ensemble will reunite after a Pandemic-long hiatus for a concert benefiting abortion rights groups.  All of the ensemble’s profit from this event will be donated to groups like the Midwest Access Coalition and the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice.  In the wake of Roe V. Wade, we are excited to use our music-making to support healthcare for all.

Rather than determining a concert order in advance, we are leaving this program up to chance…kinda like what happens when you set a playlist to “shuffle”.  Thus, we are having a Shuffle Concert!  However, we are leaving the concert order in the hands of our audience.  You, the listeners, get to choose what comes next!  Isn’t it great to have a choice?  We will be raffling the opportunity to call the next tune.  Each general admission ticket comes with 10 raffle tickets.  You can purchase additional tickets for $1 each.  If your number is called, you pick the next selection.

All works on this program have been composed by Women Composers.  Some are living, some are dead, and some are jazz composers!  This is an evening to celebrate the strides women have made in a field where they have historically been silenced or excluded.

Ursa Ensemble members will be joined by a stunning line-up of our friends!  Joining us as guest artists will be:  Pianists Rick Ferguson, Jonathan Hannau, Marianne Parker, and Lara Driscoll; Vocalists Callandra Youngleson and Katherine Petersen, and reed-players Matt Shevitz and Richard Brasseale!

“My advice to the women of America is to raise more hell and fewer dahlias.” - William Allen White
