The highly-anticipated release of Chicago’s West Loop Then and Now-People, Businesses and Buildings, by West Loop author/researcher Connie Fairbanks—is just around the corner!
Join us for this official Book Launch Event on Wednesday, September 21st from 6:00 p.m. – 7:15 p.m. at the Epiphany Center for the Arts, 201 S. Ashland Avenue, Chicago.
Connie’s 246-page book captures the essence of the West Loop’s transformation and will bring you back in time in this most dynamic part of the city.
And there’s more!
· Chicago-based veteran journalist Bob Reed will interview Connie Fairbanks about her book, followed by a Q./A. session.
· Event exclusive!...Connie Fairbanks will also be available to autograph her historic and engaging book at the event. (Did we mention the entire book, except for the paper, is “Made in Chicago.”)
· Tours of the Epiphany Center will be available following the event.

ABOUT CONNIE FAIRBANKS:
Connie began her love affair with reading and history as a child in rural Kansas where she used to browse books on the traveling bookmobile. Connie credits her lifelong love of history for her fascination with the history of Chicago’s West Loop. Connie is known to be an engaging storyteller and always wanted to chronicle the stories all around her. Connie and her husband have lived in The West Loop since the mid 1990’s so she has plenty of stories to share. Connie is an accomplished professional who is also known for her culinary flair and has published Scratch That™ Seasonal Menus and Perfect Pairings cookbook and has written various travel and food articles.
Connie‘s professional background includes launching the first nicotine patch in the U.S. and helped remove smoking from airplanes with a team. She also helped develop some of the first direct to consumer ads on TV for smoking cessation, incontinence and helped start a medical device company in Boston and take it public. In Chicago, Connie has collaborated as an actor on stage, and worked with television crews on cooking segments and commercials throughout the Midwest.
ABOUT ROBERT REED:
Robert Reed is a veteran journalist who currently contributes to Chicago magazine. A former columnist for the Chicago Tribune and editor of Crain’s Chicago Business, Bob was also an anchor and reporter for WBBM Newsradio 780 and has made numerous TV appearances.
Aside from business journalism, Bob was head of investigations and programming for the Better Government Association and before that communication director for former Gov. Pat Quinn. He’s also a political scientist, having completed an M.A. in public administration in 2021. Born and bred in Chicago, Bob is a fan of the Chicago Symphony and all Chicago sports teams – especially when they win.
