What do you get when a kid is raised on The Beatles, cuts his teeth on pop punk and Ben Folds, and then later becomes obsessed with jazz, musical theatre, and the Yentl soundtrack? Matt Coakley, a singer-songwriter from Philly, currently based in Chicago. He made his artistic debut in 2023 with the mysterious indie rock track "Wicker Woman", which he followed up with the funky, whimsical "Goldfish" and the sun-soaked "Funnel Cake". He is classically trained on the piano, and self taught on guitar, bass, clarinet and drums. After graduating from Drexel University's recording arts program in 2019, he has worked as a studio engineer, songwriter and music teacher, producing his own music and collaborating with other musicians. Matt also co-wrote a new sci-fi musical Planet W with longtime collaborator Franco Giacomarra. They staged a concert showcase of the musical in New York in April 2023, and a podcast version of the musical is currently in production. He has recorded albums with several indie artists, such as The Laughing Hearts, Drift, MJ Upstairs, Man After Man, Avenue Eight, and the Philadelphia Spice.
