About MANSA:
Directly translating to ākingā, ārulerā, or āconquerorā, MANSA aims to inspire listeners to see themselves as exactly that. With a roster of five multi instrumentalists local to Chicago and typically a ensemble of vocalists, they draw on influence from neo soul, gospel, hip hop, and even film score to push a simple message: be exactly who you are, boldly.Ā
About Shutter Step:
Aaron Brenton, Carson Bell, and Ryan Gowdy are the current lineup for Shutter Step, a funky, electronica inspired trio consisting of many original compositions and arrangements made specially for electric bass with synth pedals, washy reverb guitar, and hard hitting funk drums. Together these elements work together in completely improvised solo sections, where the group can go from sparse melodic ideas to complete shred jazz territory. With each musician coming from Madison and Chicago, their styles of composition and playing are steeped in the contemporary traditions of each area.
Since arriving on the scene a little over 7 months ago, Shutter Step has been making a splash at venues in Madison and Milwaukee such as Bar Centro, Leopoldās Cafe, Dark Horse Art Bar, Robinia Courtyard, Enlightened Brewing Company, The Cooperage, The Jazz Gallery Center for The Arts, Vendetta Coffee, Harmony Bar and Grill, Stone Arch Brewpub, Limelight Pub, and multiple shows at the Memorial Union on the UW Madison campus. Our unique sound has garnered praise from musicians and venues alike, and we emphasize putting on a good showing as our top priority.
