The Legendary Notations: A Chicago-Based vocal group founded by Clifford Curry and LaSalle Matthews at Parker High School in 1962. A short time later, another outstanding singer from Dunbar High School, James Stroud, was added to the group and that became the start of “The Original Notations”

The Notations were in high demand throughout Chicago & The Midwest. 1967: They signed to a small label called “Tad Records” and recorded a couple of songs searching for the big hit!

1969: Their big break came when Cliff met recording artist Syl Johnson who was with a mid-level record company called “Twinight Records”. Mr. Johnson offered them a recording contract and history began. The first song “I’m Still Here” written by Clifford Curry, became an international hit. It established The Notations as one of the top vocal groups throughout the 70’s and 80’s. The Notations worked in the states as well as overseas with such artists as The Temptations, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, The Staple Singers, The Chi-Lites and Al Green… to name a few. When Twilight Records folded, The Notations (advised by promoter Emmett Garner) signed to Curtom-Gemico Record Company (owned by Curtis Mayfield). Hits followed: “It only hurts for a little while” and a #1 disco hit “Think before you stop”.

1980: They moved to Mercury Records.

2019: Revitalized & Renewed - Signed to “Silent Giant Entertainment” in Sherman Oaks, CA.
