Juan Arango Palacios is a multi-disciplinary artist who was born in Pereira, Colombia, and was raised in a traditional Catholic home. As a child, the artist moved from Colombia to southern Louisiana, where their sense of identity and belonging began to be skewed by a lack of knowledge of the English language, an unfamiliarity with American culture and an internal struggle with a queer identity. Living in other parts of Louisiana and Texas, and being further subdued by these conservative cultures, Juan continued to live with a constant fear of their own identity throughout their youth. Arango Palacios’ work addresses this fear and its impact on queer identity.
