Maxwell Street Kings Perform Live at Epiphany Center for the Arts
Studebaker John Grimaldi was born in an Italian-American section of Chicago and started playing harmonica at age 7. Under the spell of music he heard on Maxwell Street, Chicago’s famed blues melting pot, Grimaldi began performing as Studebaker John and the Hawks in the ‘70s. The band name referenced the Studebaker Hawk, a car Grimaldi still owns today, and was also intended as a tribute to his friend, J.B. Hutto and the Hawks. John began playing guitar after a life-changing experience of seeing Hound Dog Taylor and the Houserockers perform. “…Hound Dog started playing, hitting notes that sent chills up and down my spine. He was versatile and powerful and would play rhythm as well as leads. I left there knowing what I wanted to do. I had to play slide guitar.”
As a songwriter and musician, Studebaker John has emerged as a major creative force in the world of the blues today. Ahead of the pack, with vision and foresight, creating a new standard and landscape for this music’s future… with John at the wheel, the future is now!

Dan Moroz Performs Live at Epiphany Center for the Arts
Chicago-based saxophonist Dan Moroz is an innovative performer, published composer, and well-regarded music educator that has built a reputation of creating engaging, emotional, and thought-provoking concert experiences. His unique style oscillates between the cerebral and the visceral, the technical and the lyrical, the traditional and the experimental, the raw and the refined; a blend of simplicity and complexity delivered in a style that is genre-defying, yet relatable and enjoyable to audiences of any variety.
This concert of original material will be centered around the allegory of Plato’s Cave. As we recover as a society from lockdowns and mandates and try to get “back to normal”, many are saying we live in a “post-truth world”. Confusion is everywhere and our collective mental health is in a precarious state. Reconnecting to ourselves and to each other through the humanities is an important first step to exiting the cave and understanding universal truths. Turn away from your screens, step into Epiphany, and open yourself to this transcendent experience!
Dan Moroz will be joined for this performance by Dan Hennel (piano), Eric Morong (vibraphone), and Bryanna Moroz (voice/ukulele).
“It is the task of the enlightened not only to ascend to learning and to see the good, but to be willing to descend again to those prisoners and to share their troubles and their honors, whether they are worth having or not. And this they must do, even with the prospect of death.”

Ian Maksin Performs LIVE Again at Epiphany Center for the Arts
Buy Tickets for his upcoming show, January 29th 2022, at Epiphany Center for Arts - https://epiphanychi.com/events/ian-maksin-2/
Ian Maksin Performs at Epiphany Center for the Arts.
IAN MAKSIN BACK IN CHICAGO: having performed already more than 50 live shows on three continents this year despite the pandemic, Ian Maksin is on a touch-and-go in his home-base Chicago and ready to bring a show to the city's newest live music venue, the Epiphany Center for the Performing Arts. In this concert Maksin will be accompanied by musicians of the international project "ZARIA" and will share instrumental music and songs from his latest album, as well as other songs and compositions gathered and inspired by the musician during his recent world travels: Mongolia, Altai, West Africa and the Balkans.
ONE-MAN ORCHESTRA: Ian Maksin has created his own unique style breaking geographic boundaries and blending many genres and styles using the cello as the main common denominator.
In addition to cello, he used an electronic device called the loop pedal, which allows him to create "loops" or layers by recording and replaying his own playing in real time. As Ian describes it himself, "Building music in such manner is akin to baking a multilayer cake. It allows the cello to be self-sufficient and have all necessary musical elements in real time: rhythm, melody and harmony". With addition of percussion and sometimes guitar and bass, this creates a whole orchestra experience similar to having several dozen people on stage.
SINGING IN NEARLY 30 LANGUAGES: What began as a hobby and a passion for linguistics and travel has become part of a unique concert experience. At this time Ian Maksin sings in nearly 30 languages including Russian, English, Farsi, Armenian, French, Italian, Arabic, Hebrew, Mongolian, Bambara (one of the tongues spoken in West Africa) and many other exotic languages. Most of this repertoire was amassed by Maksin during his world travels, jam sessions and collaborations with local musicians. Many of his original songs and instrumental compositions are also infused with flavors of ethnic music from countries and regions where he drew inspiration from: Mongolia, West Africa, Middle East, the Balkans, Andalusian flamenco.
THE GLOBAL MAN: Ian Maksin was born in Saint Petersburg (Leningrad back then), Russia into a multinational family and grew up absorbing many cultures and traditions from an early age. He began playing guitar and piano at age 3 and cello at age 6 at the School for Gifted Children in Leningrad and then came to the USA at 16 to continue studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. After working for many years in the classical genre including a three-year tenure with the New World Symphony in Miami Ian has decided to look for his own musical path. His diverse musical experience, including playing rock and blues guitar and passion for jazz and world music has allowed him to take the cello to a new dimension and develop his own distinct style as a musician and composer. In Ian's own words: "At some point I realized that music is much more than mere entertainment. Music is one of most powerful and unifying forces in the world, capable of healing, inspiring, bringing people together and bringing peace among them. I believe that cello will save the world"
