About:
Thunder and Tranquility: A Gamelan Journey invites audiences into a distinctly Balinese worldview, which embraces contrast not as conflict, but as essential balance. In Balinese Hindu tradition, opposing forces such as good and evil are not mutually exclusive, but interdependent, coexisting in a dynamic equilibrium. Rather than striving to eliminate darkness, life is devoted to maintaining harmony between all elements.
This philosophy comes alive through music and movement in Friends of the Gamelan's (FROG's) newest program, shifting between intensity and serenity. Experience the electrifying presence of the masked dance Jauk Manis; the delicate, shimmering textures of the gamelan angklung; the premiere of Chill It On Down by Ross Lafleur; and more exciting performances. Through these works, FROG transports the audience to a world where thunder and tranquility are not opposites but partners in balance. Guests of all ages are encouraged.
Since 1980, FROG invites Chicago to experience the rich musical heritage of Indonesia. Two ensembles with individually distinct sets of gamelan instruments are each respectively dedicated to Javanese and Balinese gamelan music and dance, led by artistic directors Claire Fassnacht and Alex Yoffe. The organization provides quality instruction weekly, performs world-class concerts, and presents engaging hands-on workshops. Follow us on Instagram at @chicagogamelan.

About:
Lunar Ticks are an eclectic Improvisational/Alternative Rock band from Chicago, IL.
The band is influenced by the songwriting and studio experimentation of 90's and 2000's innovative Alternative/Indie rock bands like Wilco, My Morning Jacket, Ween, Pavement, and Dr. Dog, and fuses it with genre-bending, progressive musicality, and exploratory improvisations in the vein of The Grateful Dead, Phish, and Umphrey's McGee.
Each setlist is curated from their diverse and expansive song list of originals and covers; debuting new material at almost every show. Extended improvisational passages can turn on a dime or meditate and unfurl in unexpected ways. Lunar Ticks aim to create a unique and memorable experience every time they pick up their instruments.

RAIN OF SHINE!
About:
Born into the heart of Chicago's vibrant blues scene in 1973, Demetria Taylor grew up surrounded by the soulful sounds of the genre. The daughter of the renowned blues artist Eddie Taylor Sr. and the gifted vocalist Vera Taylor, Demetria's childhood was steeped in the rich traditions of the blues. Her home was a hub for Chicago Blues legends, regularly visited by icons like Floyd Jones, Carey Bell, Sunnyland Slim, Johnny Littlejohn, Sam Lay, Willie Kent, Taildragger, Eddie Shaw, Johnny B Moore, and Magic Slim.
Demetria's passion for blues was nurtured by the soulful melodies of Etta James, Bessie Smith, Big Mama Thornton, and the inimitable Koko Taylor (no relation). Her powerful and versatile vocals could effortlessly transform any space into a realm of raw emotion, from bringing down the house to summoning celestial serenity. Demetria honors her personal heroes while adding her unique flair to classics such as “Wang Dang Doodle” and “Hoochie Coochie Woman,” along with family favorites like “Take Your Hands Down” and “Bad Girl,” a nod to her father's hit “Bad Boy.”
From a young age, Demetria was musically versatile, learning drums at 14 under the guidance of her brothers Larry and Tim. She became a staple in family shows across Chicago, performing alongside her mother Vera, and her brothers, including the talented guitarist Eddie Jr. Her gospel roots from the choir at Trinity All Nations Church further enriched her musical journey. “I’m the new kid on the block, and I respect all the musicians and singers out there,” says Demetria, reflecting her humble approach and deep respect for the blues community. “I put God first, and everything else will work out,” she asserts. Her connection to her music is profound and personal, often moving her to tears on stage as she channels the raw energy of the blues.
Demetria's journey in music has been marked by significant achievements. She has enthralled audiences nationally and internationally, gracing many clubs and festivals, including the esteemed Chicago Blues Festival. Her debut album, “Bad Girl,” released on Delmark Records, was a heartfelt homage to her roots and showcased her formidable talent. This debut earned her a nomination for "Best New Debut Artist" at the 2012 Blues Music Awards.
In August 2022, Demetria's contributions to blues were recognized with the Jus' Blues Foundation's Koko Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award. This honor coincided with the release of her second album on Delmark Records, "Doin' What I'm Supposed to Do." The following year, she garnered three Living Blues Awards nominations for Blues Artist of the Year, Female Singer, and Best Blues Album for "Doin' What I'm Supposed To Do."
Demetria Taylor continues to be a luminous presence in the blues scene, her voice echoing the legacy of her family and the soulful history of Chicago blues. Her music not only celebrates the past but also brings a vibrant, contemporary energy to the ever-evolving story of the blues.

About:
If one word could describe this Chicago Blues Hall of Famer and Keeping the Blues Alive Award winning "creative" named Fernando Jones it would be rare. This multi-instrumentalist started off by playing the Blues on the guitar when he was just four years old. Today, he's still going strong as a bandleader. This world-class, internationally known American Bluesman, educator and songwriter was born to loving Mississippi parents on the Southside of Chicago. Jones is one of a few living African American Bluesmen to have a tribute album of his compositions done by a band on a different continent; Jona's Blues Band of Rome, Italy is the group.
Jones has performed his compositions from basement parties to the University of Hawaii to The Smithsonian Institute to the Conservatory of Music in Pescara, Italy to nightclubs in Havana, Cuba. Here is a sample of his scholarly writing in the Journal of Popular Music Studies and awards. In January 2020, the National Association of Music Merchants invited him to host a lecture on the impact of Blues Pedagogy. As a lecturer Fernando Jones has established Blues Camps for youths on the continents of Asia, Europe, North America and the Caribbean island of Cuba. Here's an interview on him done by The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library.
As evident of his work(s) demonstrate; here’s why Fernando Jones, a Keeping the Blues Alive Award recipient and Chicago Blues Hall of Fame member is worth investing in as a performer, lecturer and/or an artist-in-residence. Fernando Jones is original in his approach to music with a focus on the Blues and the performing arts.

Attend the closing reception for First Annual Chicago and Vicinity Riso Exhibition by Spudnik Press on Saturday, July 4th, from 2:00-5:00pm.
The Chicago and Vicinity Riso Biennial is a regional exhibition celebrating risograph printing as it is being made right now across the Midwest. The show brings together artists from Chicago and Illinois along with the surrounding states — Iowa, Missouri, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Indiana — working in a medium defined by experimentation, accessibility, and the particular beauty of ink on paper.
Risograph printing occupies a unique space — rooted in zine culture and independent publishing, but increasingly embraced by artists pushing at the edges of what the process can do. Its layered spot colors, soy-based inks, and analog unpredictability make it a medium that rewards curiosity and collaboration.
This biennial is both a survey and a celebration, and a cheeky nod to the Art Institute of Chicago's now defunct Chicago and Vicinity exhibition. This show is a chance to bring Midwest riso work into conversation with itself and honor a tradition of showing regional art, grounded in the independent, artist-driven print culture of the Midwest.
This exhibition is a part of a summer of midwest riso exhibitions organized by Spudnik Press. A sister exhibition, 1st Annual Chicago and Vicinity Riso Exhibition, is curated by Duncan MacKenzie, Ryan Peter Miller, and Christopher Sperandio. will be taking place at Spudnik Press: 1821 W Hubbard St, #302, Chicago, IL 60622 from June 26-August 14, 2026 ( opening June 26, 6-8pm)

How Close Can You Get to a Stranger is an ongoing, evolving photographic series featuring a selection of images from a larger body of more than 2,000 photographs taken by Piper between 2018 and 2024 across Paris, Étretat, Bordeaux, Arcachon, and Biarritz.
How Close Can You Get to a Stranger is a continuous exploration of Piper’s recurring subject of choice - the stranger. To him, this proximity to the subject is an extension of his fascination with scales of intimacy. Arranged along a progressing gradient of proximity, far away landscapes sequentially become detailed portraits. Piper invites the viewer to perceive themselves through the eyes of a stranger, as if meeting for the first time - suspending the moment of first recognition as a practice of releasing judgements and an affirmation of an eternal gaze.
“To my subjects, you were once a passerby in my life, yet now I look at you, so intently”

We went to the desert for the eclipse. If we squinted, we could pretend we were on Mars.
We hadn’t been out of the city for a while and saw the biggest sky - it made us feel so incredibly tiny. We slept outside and ate outside and hiked outside. We tried to look at every rock we passed. Everything was red and brown and felt so warm.
We brought our medium format film camera and photographed the landscape, something we both remember doing but hadn’t done together. The last time one of us intentionally shot the landscape was more than twenty years ago.
When we developed the film back at home, we could squint and pretend we had been to Mars.

Attend the closing reception for After the Flood by Alex Stark on Saturday, July 4th, from 2:00-5:00pm.
After the Flood is a collection of works made both before and after a flood in the artist’s studio. Stark began making a new body of collages in which he began covering parts of his previous salvaged paintings. Collaging on Stark's former damaged works becomes an act of revival, highlighting the resilience and ability of the body to adapt. The figures are ornamented and adorned in a way that is expressive of the relationship to these divine forms. The collaged imagery is photographic, combining and recontextualizing images of food, animals, architecture and nature into Stark’s own narrative, based around the body. These unconventional figures in crowded scenes form a sensory relationship with the viewer.
As a disabled queer artist, Stark’s work contemplates his own body and the manifestation and idea of belonging in a place. Physicality is central to his work through play with different materials that integrate drawing, painting and collage with an emphasis on visible mark-making. A language and narrative is developed around figures’ natural and vulnerable state of nudity and their expressive poses that often relate to the spaces they occupy.

Attend the opening reception for Trespasses by Angelo Dolojan on Saturday, July 4th, from 2:00-5:00pm.
Trespasses is a series of graphite drawings concerned with proximity and how bodies, histories, and interior lives intersect. The works examine moments when boundaries blur and strangers cross into one another’s emotional terrain.
The title suggests both entry and overreach. To trespass is to cross a threshold without certainty of permission. It is also to risk closeness. The drawings dwell in this unstable space: between invitation and intrusion, tenderness and exposure, connection and aftermath.
Rendered from memory, the images resist documentation. They are partial reconstructions; scenes filtered through time, shaped as much by distance as by recall. Memory becomes the primary material: unstable, selective, and charged. What remains visible is not chronology but atmosphere and the feeling of having briefly occupied a shared interior and then stepped away.
Installed within Epiphany Center for the Arts, a space that once functioned as a church, the exhibition quietly acknowledges the building’s earlier life. Religious spaces have long been places where private histories are spoken aloud and where boundaries between interior and exterior life briefly soften. In this setting, the drawings consider what it means to enter another person’s emotional terrain, and what remains after those moments of closeness pass.

Attend the closing reception for This is All I Have Left to Give by Alberto Aguilar on July 4th from 2:00-5:00pm.
As humans we have access to an endless amount of ideas
Sometimes we do not believe that they are good enough
So they sit dormant or fade away in our subconscious
Making ideas into reality is a skill that one can develop
It’s not necessary for the idea to even be a good one
Sometimes it is just a step to generate other ideas
I find value in applying a self-imposed framework
Some see this as an infringement on freedom
I view it as a force to generate more ideas
Without limits we are moving in the dark
Initially I wasn't interested in this space
Visiting it I began to see its potential
Arranging things found here on site
Aside regulated party streamers
I brought this idea into being
This is all I have left to give
But more will come from it
What does it mean to you
Does it conjure any ideas
If it does do not let it go
Record, collect, make it
It will take you places
You cannot fully see

About:
"Sixty-Five 14" is an artistic movement piece that works to articulate the complex intertwining of time and identity, reflecting on the past, sharing the present, and being open to the possibilities of the future. It is an in-process performance of human struggle, celebration, and discovery. Caitlin and Najah work together to research psychological patterns that form between humans and our social settings. Utilizing vocabularies from both club and contemporary dance forms, “Sixty-Five 14” intentionally holds space to encourage safety, socialization, and camaraderie among viewers. It is curated to reflect and embrace the ever-changing nature of society and personality.
Najah Iman (she/they) and Caitlin Wonsowski (they/she) are a Chicago-based artistic duo. Their partnership began through their shared passion for improvisation, psychological research, and collaboration while pursuing their undergraduate degrees from Columbia College Chicago. They began creating “Sixty-Five 14” in the summer of 2024. Since its original showing at the 21c Museum Hotel in September of 2024, their work has been selected to be presented in several midwest festivals, such as RADFest, Emergence Festival, and Outlaw of the Arts, and they have been guest performers at NEIU. Their choreography develops from social dance culture in Chicago, and investigative improvisation with an emphasis on always remaining in process and finding comfort in adaptation. Their artistic goal is to challenge people to be critical of the social customs and ideologies we reinforce with systemic societal participation.

About:
Brother Jacob is a proud Chicago native, blues artist, radio host, and cultural preservationist whose performances blend the soul of gospel with the electric grit of Chicago blues. Born and raised on the city’s South Side, he fell in love with the blues as a child listening to WVON-AM’s Pervis Spann “The Blues Man” in the midnight hours. That deep musical foundation sparked a lifelong calling that would evolve into a unique voice on stage, over the airwaves, and in the city’s cultural conversations.
He began his professional journey through the Blues in the Schools program, performing at the Chicago Blues Festival under the mentorship of Deitra Farr. Over the years, Brother Jacob has become a familiar face on the scene, not just as a guest vocalist or sit-in performer, but as a frontman building a body of work with his own band and his own voice.
His music carries a spiritual intensity, rooted in storytelling and tradition, and driven by a mission to connect, uplift, and preserve. Brother Jacob delivers blues with reverence and revival.

About:
A Patch of Blues is an award-winning blues and soul band with members Fati Jones (vocals), Rebecca Egwuenu (lead guitar), Sam Jones (bass), & Stacy Norris (drums). The members have been playing together from a young age and developed a love for the blues, their city's heritage, and playing music together under the mentorship of some of Chicago's great blues men and women. Each member is an accomplished musician and vocalist in her own right and decided to come together to bring a unique sound and urban funky flair to their audiences. The band has performed throughout the Chicagoland area and the Midwest in major festivals including the Chicago Blues festival as well as in Memphis at the International Blues Challenge in 2023 & 2024. Having a majority of female instrumentalists for a Blues band makes A Patch of Blues special. Female vocalists have always been the standard push with blues bands, often brushing aside the spirit, virtuosity, and innovative sounds of women musicians in the genre. In the past, we had Memphis Minnie, Rosetta Sharpe, Beverly "Guitar" Watson, drummers such as Pauline Braddy setting the stage on fire! A Patch of Blues aims to bring that fire back with Rebecca Egwuenu on lead guitar & Stacy Norris on drums alongside its power vocalist Fati Jones! The band received a Chicago Music Award for Most Outstanding Band in 2024 and was nominated twice for an Intercontinental Music Award for instrumental excellence and soulful rendition of the Blues. Sam Jones joined the family in 2024 on bass. As a longtime friend and "Blues brother" for the ladies of the Patch, this was a natural fit for POB. They have performed at Buddy Guy's Legends and Rosa's Lounge, some of their own local favorites. A Patch of Blues strongly believes in the power of music to unite and heal. You can read more about the Patch at apatchofblues.com.

Attend the opening reception for The Jade by Laleh Motlagh on Sunday, July 19th, from 2:00-5:00 pm.
The Jade presents recent paintings by Laleh Motlagh, centering on a jade plant brought by her father from her hometown of Tabriz, Iran, in 2012. Over fourteen years of relocation across various Chicago homes and studios, Motlagh has nurtured this plant, developing an intimate, symbiotic bond with it. Since 2022, the jade has transitioned from a personal companion into one of the primary subjects of her visual practice.
Indigenous to South Africa but ubiquitous worldwide, the plant serves as a living metaphor for political displacement and global migration. Motlagh focuses intently on the plant's pot as a site of dual identity: it is both a protective shelter and a rigid constraint. Confined within this human-made structure, the jade adaptation mirrors the endurance of Iranian women navigating systemic restriction and control. Through daily and repetitive observation, The Jade maps the deep intimacy between human and botanical life, offering a quiet meditation on uprooting, survival, and the persistent will to grow within boundaries.

About:
Keyon Harrold is a GRAMMY® nominated trumpeter, vocalist, composer, and producer whose music defies boundaries. A genre-fluid innovator, he blends jazz, hip-hop, R&B, blues, and cinematic soul into a signature sound that is both raw and refined—emotional and electrifying. With a career anchored in versatility and excellence, Harrold has emerged as one of the most compelling voices in modern music.
Harrold’s latest album, Foreverland (2024, Concord Jazz), follows the critically acclaimed The Mugician (2017, Sony Legacy), which redefined the trumpet’s role in contemporary music. As a platinum-selling producer and first-call collaborator, he has worked with legends and luminaries across genres—from Jay-Z, Common, and Nas to Maxwell, Black Pumas, Mac Miller, Keith Richards, YEBBA, Robert Glasper, Sam Henshaw and Destin Conrad. He also co-wrote the theme song for “The Queen Latifah Show.” In 2025, Harrold performed at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony honoring Outkast, Salt-N-Pepa and more!
Whether performing on global stages or composing for film and television, Harrold pours his soul into every note. “The only thing that defines a genre is its beat,” he says, a belief that fuels his fearless exploration of music’s emotional and cultural possibilities. His live shows—raw yet virtuosic, intimate yet expansive—have captivated audiences worldwide, including at the Love Supreme Festival, where critics praised his performance as “commanding” and “seeking new challenges.”
Beyond the stage, Harrold is a dedicated artistic advisor for Jazz St. Louis and the MATI (Music at the Intersection) Festival in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri. A passionate advocate for social justice and equity, he uses his platform to inspire change and empower the next generation.
