I, Allen F. McNair, am a citizen of the world and a poet and visual artist who enjoys portraying my personal experiences and my observations of the human condition in maker art and acrylic paintings. I am 69 years young and have been creating art based on my poetry since 1990 for Thresholds after I became homeless. Thresholds has provided an invaluable resource for developing and improving my artistic talents. The city of Chicago is my home but not my only community. The overriding message in my works of art is that we, as a people, are members of an all-inclusive community of fellow human beings.
Attending the Identity and Community workshops through the Zoom meetings has inspired the broadening nature of the paintings presented in this exhibit. It is my sincere hope that we can include the exhibit’s audience with us in a growing and expanding community.
Thresholds is Illinois’ oldest and largest non-profit agency serving people suffering from severe and persistent mental illness and substance use. Thresholds supports individuals through community outreach and integrated health opportunities.
