Chicago Tribune – Things to Do in Chicago this weekend: Art from Agave
Art from agave: For centuries, mezcal has played an important role in Mexican heritage and gastronomy. The popularity of the distilled alcohol has recently exploded, leading to a surplus of agave leaves which create an imbalance in local ecosystems. One solution is using the discarded agave leaves to create unique works of art. This show is curated by Trine Ellitsgaard and Kiff Slemmons, and includes prints and sculptures as well as carpets, furniture and apparel. This weekend’s opening reception includes lectures, culinary demonstrations and performances related to the exhibition. “Agave!” from 6-9 p.m. Nov. 6 at Epiphany Center for the Arts, 201 S. Ashland Ave.; free, tickets at epiphanychi.com
