The Dust Between Us (2025)
Stoneware, pottery shards, glaze debris
13″ X 11″
$1,200
This form loosely echoes the ancient Greek terracotta krater – a vessel meant to mix water and wine. A measure of restraint or indulgence. Composure, or depravity. I made functional pots for 25 years with perfect forms and glazes. Now I find myself adding in glaze mishaps and shards from broken work. The surface is layered with these discarded glaze scraps as well as the dust and debris from failed pots I have made. I want my work to reflect the world around us: imperfect, messy. The dust of everything around us embeds itself into us, whether we see it or not. It sticks to us. It changes us. Our bodies are vessels, holding the dust of all that is around.
