Nick Fury’s work investigates the ways urban transit systems reflect the identity and character of the cities they serve. Through firsthand experiences navigating both Chicago and Tokyo, he contrasts two vastly different approaches to public infrastructure. Chicago’s system—raw, imperfect, and pulsing with third rail sparks—embodies the city’s soul: resilient, diverse, and unapologetically unpolished. In contrast, Tokyo’s transit operates with near-surgical precision, reflecting a culture rooted in innovation, efficiency, and collective harmony. By studying these systems, Fury reveals how transportation is more than movement—it's a visual and experiential language that tells the deeper story of a city’s values and rhythms.

About Nick Fury

Nick Fury is a multidisciplinary artist from Hyde Park, IL. He studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and earned degrees in Graphic Design from the American Academy of Art and a BFA from Columbia College Chicago. His work explores global transit systems, fashion, and architecture, drawing influence from cities such as Chicago, New York, Tokyo, Paris, and Frankfurt. Known for his inventive use of mediums, Fury is currently the only artist to incorporate correction tape as a central element in his drawings. His practice spans drawing, painting, and printmaking.

As founder of the private Lake Line Gallery, Fury has exhibited widely. His work has appeared in exhibitions at the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago Cultural Center, Design Museum of Chicago, DuSable Black History Museum, and Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, among others. He has completed public murals for the City of Gary, DuSable Museum, and Renaissance Marriott, and led projects with Expo Chicago, Chicago Transit Authority, and TM Magazine. An active educator and speaker, Fury has hosted art talks at the Research House for Asian Art and Northwestern University, and taught at institutions including the Museum of Science and Industry and Franklin Fine Art Academy.
