About:

The DAN MERLO QUARTET is led by Dan Merlo on trombone, and features the legendary Vincent Davis on drums, the young and in demand Micah Collier on bass, and the veteran vibraphonist Preyas Roy.

All 4 musicians are regulars of the Vincent Davis Basement Academy that professes the south side Chicago free jazz concept of spontaneous composition, all ears up, all the time, blazing tempos and multiple meters, collectively creating music in the moment on the turn of a dime.

The BASEMENT SYMPHONY will bring these weekly rituals out of the basement and in front of a live studio audience. It will also be the Dan Merlo Quartet's first live album recording.

In the spirit of a classical symphony, the Basement Symphony will feature 3 movements: Moderato, an Adagio middle movement, and a blazing Presto—but will be performed in the Basement style of spontaneous composition. The quartet will channel melodic, rhythmic, and emotional themes in the opening movement and develop them through the middle movement to the finale taking the audience along with them on their transcendent joy of discovery.

The Dan Merlo Quartet looks forward to discovering what will happen with you and thanks you in advance for being a part of the live recording.
