Aeron Maxwell
CHASING VISIONS IN HYPERSPACE

Guild Room

May 31 2024 to July 12, 2024

Aeron Maxwell's art is a distinct vision of modernity, futurism, and surreal fantasy conceived through his process that uses automatic drawing for creative visualization. This is the work of his subconscious imagination, where he relinquishes control through random mark-making that maps his mind and the neuron sparks that lead towards innovative ideas about form and space. His work is a collaboration of diverse elements that converge into a unified and forward-thinking whole. Aeron’s gay identity, expressed through flamboyant adornment, strengthens his creative vision and fuels a kaleidoscope of optimism about the direction of his art form.

A vibrant palette of luminous colors, patterns, and various textural techniques provide dramatic settings for a menagerie of inventive forms, lyrical shapes, and character embodiments. Dichotomies of color and shape engage in an electrifying visual dialogue and expressive interplay. Ambiguous elements invite further interpretation and offer a sensorial portal to the mind and psyche.

In many ways, Aeron’s work draws comparisons to Joan Miró's "Harlequin’s Carnival," with influences of Abstract Pop-Surrealism and connections to Chicago's Imagist past. Aspects of his geometric, biomorphic, and diatom-like abstraction stem from his fascination with microbiology, technology, and science fiction.

Aeron perceives his art as a metaphor for unconventional ideas and innovations in humanity’s trajectory into the Aquarian Age. The title of the exhibition, Chasing Visions in Hyperspace, describes his futurist outlook and everlasting challenge shared by many artists: the pursuit of chasing and documenting the details of new, ephemeral, and inspiring ideas before they fizzle away.

RSVP for the opening reception on Friday, May 31 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the link below:
