About Ani Afshar
Born in Istanbul, Turkey, and educated in Geneva, Switzerland, Chicago-based artist Ani Afshar creates weavings and related works in fiber that encompass a wide range of intellectual, contextual, and emotional concerns. She imbues her highly individual work – wool hangings, shawls, bedspreads, pillows or beaded and woven jewelry – with her deeply felt understanding and appreciation of the aesthetic principles inherent in the grand history of textiles. Her work has been exhibited at Hyde Park Art Center, Hilton Asmus, Hokin Gallery, and Hairpin Art Center among many others. She has been reviewed by New City and art critic and art historian Dennis Adrien.
