About Anne Hughes
Born in Montréal, Québec, Anne Hughes grew up exposed to a cultural variety of places and people. She developed a curiosity and fascination with the world which sustains her art practice. Hughes discovered a mix of materials around drawing, painting, constructing and more, as a means to explore, to self-challenge, to ponder, observe, revisit, and to “travel” through the process of her work. She holds a BFA cum laude from Concordia University, Montréal; MA in Art from Eastern Illinois University; and an MFA in Painting from Bowling Green State University, Ohio. Anne Hughes is the recipient of the William B. Bruce Fine Arts European Travel Scholarship from the Canadian-Scandinavian Foundation and a Sheila Hugh MacKay Foundation grant. Hughes has been awarded a number of Artist Residency Fellowships such as The Millay Colony for the Arts, NY; Ucross Foundation, WY; Ragdale Foundation, IL; Villa Montalvo, CA; and the Anderson Center, MN. Her work is included in the collections of the Scholl Foundation IL, Red Wing Hospital MN, Alfred Dallaire Montréal QC; and private collections in Canada, Switzerland and the United States. She has exhibited across the States and Canada. For over ten years, she has been represented in the Chicago area by ZIA Gallery and has shown at both Art Now and AQUA, in the Art Miami/Basel satellite exhibitions.
