The Language We Create
Catacombs Gallery
December 14, 2025 - February 14, 2026
The Language We Create speaks directly to the role of artists in the world of visual communication.
Throughout the diversity of their explorations, these 11 artists, all cohort residents of Chicago Artists Coalition, remain in dialogue with one another. Each work brings its own context, the clear signature of its creator - a story crafted through the artist’s uniquely defined language. These pieces, while distinct, have common threads that link them one to another.
We see a vocabulary built on textures, colors, and shapes, layered with movement and light in the same way nouns, verbs and adjectives are traditionally woven together in prose. These combinations as envisioned by the artist craft their narrative, document their reality.
Language however, is an inherently social tool used to enhance relationships, for expression and connection. While the work is its own being, it asks the viewer to bring their own interpretation to the experience, linking themselves to the piece as well
RSVP for the opening reception on Sunday, December 14th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the link below:

In 1974, a small group of artists and visionaries formed the CAC to advocate for rights, support, and visibility in the city’s cultural landscape. Their work was foundational to the formation of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, the development of Chicago Artists Month, and the passing of the Percent for Art Ordinance, which since 1978 has allocated 1.33% of the cost of new construction projects to the City’s Public Art Program.
Over the last five decades, the organization has evolved and adapted to meet the changing needs of Chicago’s artists.
Chicago Artists Coalition (CAC) launches and sustains contemporary art careers in Chicago, serving as an essential connector between artists, curators, art institutions, and art lovers of all backgrounds. CAC is non-profit organization that supports contemporary Chicago artists and curators by offering residency programs, exhibitions, professional development, and resources that enable them to live, work and thrive in the city.
Our work is guided by our core values of:
- Community Building
- Professional Networking
- Knowledge Sharing
- Collaborative Partnerships
- Equitable Opportunities
