All five of the paintings in this series were made recently at Charmer’s Café in Rogers Park. For several years I lived in a nursing home near the café and would go there almost every day to draw. It gave my life purpose and meaning outside of the nursing home. I still live near Charmer’s and often go to draw or just have some coffee.
The different layers or levels the shapes in the drawing represent layers of identity or personality that a person can share or not share with others. The drawings also remind me of wood grain, of inner and outer growth. Thank you.
