About René Avila:
René Avila is an educator in both the public and private school systems, as well as a basketball coach for middle schoolers. He is also a band leader and bass player for an Afro-Cuban jazz ensemble (Rene Avila's Afro Cuban Quintet) in addition to his traditional Cuban Charanga Orchestra "Charangueo." Both of his projects perform at various venues and festivals in the Chicago metropolitan area.
René got his start in playing string bass during his early years and later as a cellist during his musical studies in college. Besides teaching general music, he also teaches violin, cello and guitar at The Puerto Rican Arts Alliance.
As a musician, René was influenced by legendary Chicago radio icon Victor Parra, originator and host of "The Mambo Express" radio program, which focused on traditional Cuban music and its evolution to the US. Since then, René has studied and researched Cuban music, and is a very serious and passionate advocate of this music. He enjoys sharing it with others on Mambo Inn and through his bands' performances, keeping the tradition alive. Tune in to René Avila's Mambo Inn Sunday's from 4pm until 6pm on Chicago's Home for Jazz WDCB 90.9FM.

About Josie Falbo:
Josie is and has been one of Chicago's busiest and most frequently heard studio singers for over 35 years.
Heard on countless commercials [in various languages] including McDonald’s, Mr. Clean, Sara Lee, Oscar Mayer, Green Giant, United Airlines, Old Style, Nationwide, Coke, Midway Airlines, Budweiser, plus many others heard in other countries as well as the "Cruisin' USA" Video Game and hit records in both the U.S. and overseas. Josie's singing career began singing in Italian and English when she was 19 months old! Josie had won voice scholarships in both high school and college, performed solo at the Lyric Opera House using her multi-range voice in both the classical and pop idioms.
Vocally she can deliver the Gospel power of Mahalia Jackson, rock as hard as Pat Benatar, Be-Bop with the best of 'em or perform today's contemporary hits with a style and sound that will amaze and impress any audience.
Josie's diverse vocal abilities have utilized by numerous artists ranging from Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael Bolton, Ben Vereen, Vic Damone, Nancy Wilson, Dennis De Young of Styx, Loleatta Holloway, James Durst, Yolanda Adams, Della Reese and Mavis Staples to name a few.
Josie can also be heard on the re-recorded sequences of the recently restored Orson Welles classic film “Othello”, on the TV show ads for “Dave’s World” as well as the theme song for the TV show "Chicago Story". and more.
In 2006, Josie was inducted into the Order Sons Of Italy Hall Of Fame for lifetime achievement in the arts.
Josie's work with Chicago's critically and internationally acclaimed "Lakeside Singers" has been seen and heard by thousands on TV as well as in person at their spring and Christmas shows. Her solos at the shows have brought down the house, brought tears to people's eyes and commanded multiple standing ovations.
Josie is still one of Chicago's busiest singers. Whether it's working with orchestras and bands at clubs, corporate events or concerts, cantering at Our Lady of Pompeii Shrine in Chicago, back-up singing for various shows in Chicago, recording sessions for artists or commercials and more, Josie's voice still reigns supreme.

About:
Here’s the catch: Catch 35, the popular and highly regarded seafood restaurant at the northern edge of the Chicago Loop. They serve terrific food, which jazz music lovers can enjoy at the front bar, seated near the pint-sized, in-the-round, barely accessible stage area – just scrunch down through the half-door beneath the countertop – where Eric Hochberg and Steve Million have worked in tandem, five nights a week, since 2005.
They work together but not alone. There’s always a guest to make it a trio – just not the kind of trio you’d expect, because that bandstand is way too small for a drummer. But trumpeter Rob Parton and the late saxophonist Mark Colby showed up regularly from the start. Then came others representing an A-List of Chicago’s jazz talent - Saxophonists Eric Schneider, Ari Brown, and Greg Ward. Trumpeters like Art Davis, Russ Johnson, and Victor Garcia. A gaggle of guitarists (such as John McLean and John Moulder) and a salmagundi of singers, including Dee Alexander and Bobbi Wilsyn, Sarah Marie Young and Paul Marinaro.
Newer names took part while still on the rise – Marquis Hill and Caroline Davis, Alyssa Allgood and Matt Gold – and iconic Chicago exports on their visits home, among them the late miracle-worker Ira Sullivan and Kurt Elling, the top male vocalist in jazz. And don’t forget the outpouring of Chicago pianists and bassists, only too glad to fill in on a moment’s notice, for Million and Hochberg when schedules collided: too many to name, and just about anyone you can think of.
In every case, these two made it sound like they had backed their guests for years on end, with enviable ease. They’ve honed this level of communication during one of the town’s longestrunning gigs. And that’s just half the story. They first met shortly after Million moved to Chicago from Kansas City in the autumn of 1988, when the pianist subbed into a gig Hochberg was leading; he ended up as the regular pianist in the Hochberg’s band for years to follow.
It all adds up to more than three decades. Not only do they still get along; they still find ways to balance each other’s strengths. The bourbon richness of Hochberg’s tone anchors the Campari effervescence of Millions’ technique; empathic piano rejoinders provide a tangy accent to the ideas that pour forth in lithe and lively bass solos. On this superb set of duets, you get to enjoy, unalloyed, the partnership that has delighted guests and listeners for 15 years at Catch 35. The musicians’ obvious mutual respect, both musical and personal, has continued to deepen. The conversationspins on, ever more intriguing but no less inviting.
And that really is some catch. This performance as part of the Jazz Music Series at Epiphany is sure to be one for the books.

About:
This will be the official release show of the new album.
TS3 (Timothy Seisser Trio) is thrilled to announce the release of their debut album, “It’s Just O.K.”. This new project from Chicago based Electric Bassist, Timothy Seisser, is a unique sonic mashup of Jazz/Rock/Fusion - Featuring Seisser’s dazzling virtuosity on the 6 string electric bass. He is one of the best kept secrets in the bass world, but sports a performance/recording history as a sideman that puts him at the top of the list in the Chicago Bass scene. Ready to take on the leader role again, Tim started this new trio at the onset of 2020, after a chance encounter with legendary Bassist, Tim Lefebvre. The trio is rounded out by longtime friends and fellow Chicago collaborators, Drummer Jonathan Marks (Hey Champ, Monakr, Dessa, Liquid Soul, Lupe Fiasco) and Keyboardist Andrew Lawrence (Bonelang, Bonzo Squad, District 97).
TS3 is joined on this record by some of the jazz/improv world elite, including Donny McCaslin, Fareed Haque, Howard Levy and Tim Lefebvre. The production work and added electric bass work of Lefebvre is especially notable. The collaboration between Bassists makes for a truly unique sounding project, especially when finished with the stellar mixing and mastering work of grammy award nominated and top L.A. engineer, Marc Nelson. Lefebvre’s endorsement on the project will surely make some in the bass world step up, and discover Seisser’s unique approach to the Electric Bass.

About Emmaline:
Emmaline is a singer and songwriter possessing a smoky, jazz-infused, genre-fluid voice admirable as much for the range of traditional sounds she draws upon, as for her startling freshness—fresh, as in new and innovative as well as in attitude and sly humor. Her songs are bold in statement and soft in feel, her flow supple and precise. She prides herself in being one who has listened with deep intention to her heroes—Anita O’Day and Billie Holiday, Erykah Badu and D’Angelo—and has already learned to rise above questions of category with a healthy sense of musical identity and forethought.
“I consider myself a jazz singer,” Emmaline says. “I have been singing jazz my entire life—I studied it and I think that there is a place for me in the jazz world. Whether my music is strictly jazz I cannot say and in fact, would rather not. To me jazz is art, not a set of rules.”
Emmaline’s success speaks for itself: On her first U.S. tour in November of 2019, she performed as the opening act for 10-time GRAMMY winner Chaka Khan at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. On her own, Emmaline has headlined countless, sold-out shows at some of the country’s most notable jazz clubs such as The Jazz Standard (New York City), Scullers (Boston), The Jazz Kitchen (Indianapolis), and Keystone Korner (Baltimore). She has performed in a wide range of situations on stage and online—with big bands and orchestras, singing Jessie J’s “Domino” (à la Billie Holiday) for Postmodern Jukebox and “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing” with the world renowned Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra —and has amassed a substantial social media following. Her first official release—the six-song EP “All My Sweetest Dreams”—was released in September of 2019, and due to the confidence and clarity of the music, the release turbo-charged the tempo of her career ascendancy. Her sophomore EP, “Necessity,” is set to release on October 2, 2020, and Emmaline claims that her listeners are in for a surprise.

Doors: 5pm for Golden Hour

Tickets: $30 - General Admission | VIP - Table for two, first two rows included with either 1 bottle of house wine OR 4 craft beers
About Denise Thimes:
After describing her brilliant voice as a perfect mix of Nancy, Sassy, and Lady Day, it came only naturally that the late legendary jazz trumpeter Clark Terry would, at New York’s historical Flushing Town Hall, select Denise Thimes as that night’s featured vocalist.
This truly unique and inspirational artist is often asked by fellow noteworthy musicians “why haven’t we heard of you”? Not to worry. With a voice as noticeably (as Terry puts it) “ranks with all of the greats,” it won’t be long.
Over the course of a multi-faceted career spanning just a little under 3 decades, Thimes is no stranger to the music world, growing up in a home surrounded by all types of music from her father & radio icon, the late Lou “Fatha” Thimes.
Thimes has performed with such jazz notables as Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra,(St. Louis, MO) the late Clark Terry(The Blue Note-NY), Dr. Billy Taylor, Earl May, Benny Powell,(Flushing Town Hall) and James Moody(Blue Note-NY). She has also graced the stage with the likes of Houston Person, Jimmy&Tootie Heath, Bobby McFerrin, and Bucky Pizzarelli.
In recent years she has appeared and toured Paris with David Sanborn, sung for the Queen of Thailand(Mandarin Oriental Hotel), Queen Elizabeth II(British Embassy-Washington D.C. (during her 2009 visit to the U.S), President George W Bush(White House 2007), and was hand picked by the Queen of Soul(Aretha Franklin) to perform for her 72nd birthday celebration ( 2015-Ritz Carlton, NY).
Thimes has truly been one of the cherished voices of modern jazz.

About Roya Naldi:
Roya Naldi, based in Chicago, IL, specializes in classic jazz music of the 1920s and 1930s. Classic jazz, especially that which was recorded in Chicago during that time, became her obsession when she was in her teens and has remained a focus in her life since.
Roya Naldi performs many familiar jazz standards, but highlights rarely-heard, unique songs that are sparkling diamonds in the rough. She approaches her music from a perspective of authenticity and emotionalism. Her rich vocal tone and unique style breathes new life into the music of the jazz age, singing with a nuanced, exciting, and often moody style. Roya Naldi views every song as a beautiful story she is telling to her listeners, approaching every lyric with a sense of empathy and emotion. She draws inspiration from many notable jazz singers of the 1920s and 1930s, such as Al Bowlly, Annette Hanshaw, Cliff Edwards, Frank Sylvano, and others. Inspired by these greats, the music Roya Naldi performs gives listeners a modern taste of a style of jazz that has kept its charm and allure for a century!
Roya Naldi has made regular appearances at Chicago’s stylish The Drake hotel, the legendary Green Mill Cocktail Lounge, Hungry Brain, various other venues and festivals in and beyond Chicago, and is always accompanied by the finest musicians of the genre.
'This Madness’ is an EP collection of four songs pressed onto 78rpm vinyl for Rivermont Records! This EP highlights the stunning vocals of Roya Naldi in an intimate and captivating manner, as she sings some of her favorite songs from the Jazz Age. Many of these songs have a deep sentimental value to her and it comes through beautifully in this album. ‘This Madness’ is at times playful, but has an underlying moody / dark feel, both musically and expressed through the album cover art. This album was recorded during the uncertain and difficult year of 2021. It is a tribute to the trying time

About:
For 30 years, award-winning pianist/composer Andy Milne has collaborated with dancers, visual artists, poets and musicians spanning jazz, classical, pop, folk, and world music. With his new group UNISON, Milne explores the intimacy of the piano trio. Jazz Music Series Presents: Michele Thomas
Date: July 14, 2022
Doors: 5 pm for Golden Hour
Showtime: 7:30 pm
Tickets: $20 - General Admission
About Michele Thomas:
Gospel-infused jazz singer-songwriter Michele Thomas rounds up an A-list cast of Chicago musicians for her much-anticipated third album The Assumption (released on March 25th) which casts a light on topics of race, sexism and authority yet, ultimately, celebrates the beauty of life.
A stalwart of the Chicago music scene, both as a singer and a long-term educator, Michele Thomas is a suave innovator. With silken grace she eases in her formative background in gospel, and her love of R&B, soul, and neo-soul, into a musical language that shows a dedication and a passion for jazz, spanning all of its defining eras. Michele’s restless creativity reflects jazz’s improvisatory spirit—for jazz, like life, is a journey and not a destination.
“Art should be something that is life-affirming for the artist and help them reach their highest potential through expressing themselves freely,” Michele shares. “It should be risky, vulnerable, and done with love and authenticity.”
The Assumption album is her first release to feature originals alongside imaginatively-arranged jazz chestnuts done in Michele’s unmistakable way. It also features Michele’s band which includes A-list Chicago session and jazz musicians. The personnel here is Chris Mahieu, Rhodes piano; Chris Greene, saxophones; Clark Sommers, bass; Neal Alger, guitar; Jeff Hedberg, trumpet; and Darren Scorza, drums. Darren produced The Assumption; served as the album’s mixing and mastering engineer; arranged many of the non-originals; and contributed horn arrangements. He’s also Michele’s husband and the couple have been primary collaborators longer than the length of their 17-plus year marriage.

About Luciano Antonio:
Luciano's performance takes the audience on a tour of Brazil by presenting a wide variety of Brazilian compositions combined with his own originals. In his Performance Luciano contrasts songs that have rich and complex harmonies and melodies with simple rhythms against songs that have simple harmonies and melodies with very complex rhythms, and the dynamics range from pure solo guitar and voice to the full sound of the rich Brazilian percussion in a fascinating musical way. Luciano released three albums, two of which are original music "Vida De Artista - An Artist's Life" in 2011 and “Sem Palavras – Without Words” in 2015. His 3rd Album is a 'Live Concert" at the prestigious Jazz Showcase. Make no mistake; Luciano has placed his stamp on the Brazilian music scene in Chicago.
