JOSE AGGARI
Portrait of a Filipina Caregiver (2023)
Oil on wood
36” x 36”
$4,000

ARTIST STATEMENT:
My painting focuses on the relationship between man and nature by incorporating architectural and natural elements. I find inspiration from the sun, moon, forest, water, fire, and birds, integrated with man-made elements which consist of houses, caves, architecture and printable typography. Dynamism or motion is a common denominator in my work. My medium is oil on wood and I use palette knives instead of brushes. I discovered that my medium gives me enormous flexibility in my creative process. Leonardo da Vinci has a great influence on my work and philosophy. As you may recall his writing can only be read by using a mirror. I emulate this idea by using the alphabet and numbers in a similar fashion. My message is to promote awareness and create a dialogue that is related to the evolution of our learning process.

ARTIST BIO:
Jose G. Aggari, Jr. discovered his passion for art and music as a child growing up in a family of artists. He is accomplished in painting, sculpture and architecture, and is also a gifted percussionist and saxophonist. Aggari left the Philippines for Chicago at age 13, and studied art and architecture at Wright College and the University of Illinois. His paintings possess an intricate, narrative quality which when viewed from a distance, may seem abstract and expressionistic.
