Khleo Morris
INSTRUMENTAL

Sanctuary Hall Gallery

April 5, 2024 to May 25, 2024

Chicago based artist Khleo Morris creates portraits that explore the nature of duality and the strengths pulled from opposing aspects of her subjects. Her work is greatly inspired by film processing where she found that photographic negatives held subtle attributes not quite captured in the developed imagery, as if exposing the spirit of the image. Putting both phases of development at play captures the intricate nature of human existence, where light and darkness coexist. The aim is to explore the power of duality in the subject and invite the viewer to explore that power within themselves.

The selected works for Instrumental honors both well-known and local musical artist who inspire beyond their musical talents. The heart of the artist is the greatest instrument that naturally flows through their music. Music can conjure up our deepest emotions and shape our thoughts. It is a tool of human connection that is instrumental to shaping culture.
