In Unencountered Clouds, artists Jesse M Bell (Milwaukee) and Marc Benja (Chicago) present a collection of recent works that invite the viewer into their dream-like scenes. Both artists create narratives with playful similarities, sharing stories of identity, memory, and the vernacular. While their shared aesthetics invoke an overall sense of wonder, their candid and humorous works also provide a whimsical viewing experience where organic abstraction is infused with character and charm.

About Jesse M Bell

Jesse M Bell is a contemporary abstract painter based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In his practice, Bell works to explore both the foundational, as well as the more remote, aspects of painting, realizing the opportunities afforded by the historical while also contributing to the ever-evolving, hyper-current conversation of the medium. Focusing primarily on the abstraction and interaction of organic shapes in various painting mediums, he employs subjective markings and detached iconography to create what he refers to as “visual poems” or “speech-act objects”.

About Marc Benja

Marc Benja is an artist primarily working with paint and textiles/fiber. He is the owner/curator of Fluffy Crimes, a non-profit condo gallery in Chicago that features artists from around the world. He received his BA from Columbia College Chicago. His instructors, Louise LeBourgeois, Bob Thall and Ivan Brunetti, inspired him to make the leap into art fulltime in 2019 after being immersed in “Corporate America” for 25 years.
