Billboard (2023). Huang captures his observations of a city dominated by advertising campaigns promoting commercial goods, Broadway shows, and art exhibitions. The city is filled with large- scale campaigns that introduce the fantasy of living, supported by steel structures that form this urban landscape. However, the billboard structures have led Huang to question whether the complex—sometimes even extravagant—structures serve a functional or decorative purpose. Huang rebuilt the billboard structure with plywood — a material symbolizing temporariness, speed, and cheapness. This choice emphasizes the functional aspect of physical construction, as the structure forms the foundation without which the formation could not be realized. Simultaneously, he eliminates its original functionality, transforming it so that the structure no longer supports any representative image but instead places itself under the spotlight.
