ARTIST STATEMENT:
My creative side was not given priority when I was an accounting professional. When I took art classes at Truman College in 2008, I realized that the medium suited my personality, and I have been painting in Watercolor since. I was used to deadlines and detail work; thus, I aim to finish a painting before the target date. As a native of the Philippines, I love to paint in vibrant and earthy colors with textures and patterns, I am blessed to be a Filipino American artist. I bring to my art the sensibility and resiliency of my immigrant’s pain and joy of thriving in a competitive environment and earning respect with my peers through my creativity and hard work. The artwork: “Ansel’s Shingles Odyssey” reflects the ongoing battles of my husband’s painful journey of his shingles affliction which started last year. I salute his courage.

ARTIST BIO:
Susan Alforque Silvano did not go to art school. She started her career as a Watercolor Artist after decades of practice as a CPA in the Philippines and in Chicago. She graduated with a BBA in Accounting, Cum Laude from UE Manila. Her art education was through the Saturday Watercolor class at Truman College. Active as a community volunteer, she chaired the 1999 Chicago Philippine Independence celebration. She was the first female president of the Philippine CPAs in Chicago and of its umbrella organization in North America, the National Council of Philippine American Canadian Accountants. She is a member of the Chicago Alliance of Visual Artists and Sinag USA Chicago. She has exhibited in various Chicago venues, to name a few: Philippine Consulate, 5 Chicago area Public Libraries, Evanston Art Center, Epiphany Art Center, Rizal Center, Chicago Cultural Center, Daley Center, Navy Pier, Trickster Gallery.
