Tushar J. Mithaiwala has earned two associate degrees from Elgin Community College, which include an associate degree in science/engineering and an associate in applied science in computer aided design and drafting technology. He once dreamed of being a mechanical engineer and doing machine design like his father, who passed away from metastasized cancer of the breast, after a thirteen year struggle with the disease, two months before Tushar graduated from Elgin High School. In the process of being diagnosed with a mental illness, he discovered that his true gifts were music, writing, and art. Tushar feels that his identity is East-Indian as he was raised in East-Indian culture as well as Hindu traditions and religion. Tushar feels that his most profound discovery is that others with similar mental illness share his passion for creative pursuits.
Thresholds is Illinois’ oldest and largest non-profit agency serving people suffering from severe and persistent mental illness and substance use. Thresholds supports individuals through community outreach and integrated health opportunities.
