About Chan:

Chan is a rhythmic phonic musical artist from the city of Chicago who specializes in taps, contralto/ baritone phonation and improvisation. Chan strives to investigate the unending capabilities taps have as a percussive form and contributor to the rhythmic fabric of music. Chan Band is a collaboration between Chan, Erez Dessel, Tyler Wagner, and Daniel Gayden who execute these possibilities in the Black vernaculars of jazz, rap, and rock through originals, historical jazz and taps material, classic tunes, and exploratory improvisation. Chan Band has played Cole’s Bar, Burlington, California Clipper, and Golden Dagger. Chan's life long background in rhythmic improvisation, devised theatre, creative writing, jazz, and taps all inform Chan's vision to help reinstall tap dance as a core part of the vernacular in jazz music. Chan is forever grateful to be able to say they have been mentored and/or taught by some of the best in the literary, film/tv, music, tap dance, and theatrical fields.
