They will be joined by the musicians on the album: Joshua Ramos, bass, Jim Widlowski, drums, Fareed Haque, guitar, and Pat Mallinger, saxophone.
The evening will feature stories and songs from the album including the single Song Sung Blue, a jazz waltz cover of the 1972 Neil Diamond hit, The Lusty Month of May, Fiets Don't Fail Me Now and more! The album was recorded at Chicago's Soundmine Studios. Featuring Anne Burnell, vocals, Mark Burnell, piano and vocals, Joshua Ramos, bass, Jim Widlowski, drums and percussion, Fareed Haque, guitar, and Pat Mallinger, sax, with recording engineer Dennis Tousana, mixing & ATMOS Mastering by Erik J Martin and Mastering by Bob Katz, Digital Domain.
About the Band:
Anne and Mark Burnell are Chicago DCASE Artist 2024 grant award recipients, Illinois ArtsTour and Chicago Band Roster artists and they performed the National Anthem for the Chicago Cubs, White Sox, Chicago Fire, and the Special Olympics. Singer-songwriter Anne Burnell was awarded the Chicago Cabaret Professionals 2024 Excellence in Cabaret, and the duo will receive the Gold Coast Award in October. Mark Burnell taught at Carnegie Mellon University after receiving two music degrees there.
Bassist Joshua Ramos has opened for Stevie Wonder and Spyro Gyra, shared the bill with Jason Moran, Ramsey Lewis and Andrew Bird. With the Occidental Brothers band he has performed at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, the Montreal and Toronto Jazz Festivals.
Drummer and percussionist Jim Widlowski is returning from performing with "The Who's Tommy" on Broadway. The production opened in Chicago at the Goodman Theater. Jim performs with the City Lights Orchestra and many of the Broadway touring shows in Chicago such as Wicked, Rent, and Lion King.
Fareed Haque is a modern guitar virtuoso. Steeped in classical and jazz traditions, his unique command of the guitar and different musical styles inspire his musical ventures with tradition and fearless innovation. Haque has toured and recorded with Joe Zawinul, Billy Cobham, Dave Holland, Paquito D’Rivera, Sting, Zakir Hussain, Bob James, Joe Henderson and many others, in addition to co-leading groups with Tony Monaco, Paul Wertico, Goran Ivanovic, Garaj Mahal, and The Chicago Immigrant Orchestra. Haque has released numerous albums as a leader, in jazz, classical, world music and fusion styles, and is the recipient of numerous accolades and awards including Best World Guitarist, Guitar Player Magazine 2009, 2004 Acoustic Album of the Year, 2007 Independent Music Award, and Best New World Music Group in Chicago Reader Poll 2020.
Pat Mallinger was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota and began playing the saxophone at 11 years of age. He received his Jazz Studies degree from North Texas State University. He lived and performed in Los Angeles, Dallas, Boston, and Japan, before establishing Chicago as his home in 1990. He is a co-leader of Sabertooth, which has been the mainstay band at the Green Mill Lounge each Saturday night from 1992 to 2018. Pat is the Lead Mentor and coordinator of the Ravinia Jazz Mentor Program founded by Ramsey Lewis, and has been with that program since its inception in 1994. Through that outreach program, he mentors select Ravinia Jazz Scholars in rehearsals and performances.
