About:
Kari is an award-winning and multi-genre harpist reaching new horizons with the harp by combining her extensive background in classical harp with the worlds of electronics and jazz. As a previously featured performer for Google and NBC News, she has also appeared as a concerto soloist at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, and was a finalist in the American Harp Society’s National Competition. She made her solo debut in London, United Kingdom at the prestigious Wigmore Hall in 2022 as part of the Crying Out Loud series, later as a soloist for their Wigmore Sessions, and most recently with her jazz ensemble for their Imagine Series in July of 2024. Her jazz ensemble, the Kari Novilla Trio, performs across London and the United States, including the London Regent’s Park Summer Jazz Festival, Spice of Life Jazz Club in Soho, Clara in Wicker Park, and The Whistler in Chicago. Her larger ensemble, the Kari Novilla Sextet, continues her exploration of improvisation and cross-genre collaboration, fusing the sounds of classical harp with jazz and contemporary influences.
She is also a sought after orchestral harpist, having performed with such orchestras as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony, New World Symphony, Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, and Johnson City Symphony amongst others. Kari graduated in May 2021 with her Bachelors in Harp Performance from Indiana University as a full scholarship Barbara and David Jacobs Scholar and studied with Harp Department chair, Elzbieta Szmyt. She graduated with Distinction with a Masters in Music from the Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Professor Emerita of Harp, Skaila Kanga and Professor of Jazz Harp, Park Stickney.
In the fall of 2024, Kari was appointed one of ten Fellows and the Principal Harpist of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Raised in Tennessee, she is committed to promoting inclusivity and diversity in all her work, and she strives to reach under-served communities by producing her own charity concerts and educational programmes internationally.
