About:

The Chicago HBCU Alumni Choir is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich musical legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Through music, community engagement, and service, the organization also works to support the next generation of scholars by awarding scholarships to students aspiring to attend HBCUs.

Founded in 2023 by Morehouse College alumnus Martin L. Woods, the Chicago HBCU Alumni Choir brings together HBCU alumni from across the Chicagoland area who share a commitment to celebrating HBCU culture, tradition, and excellence. Its mission is grounded in four fundamental pillars: preservation, outreach, scholarship, and alumni engagement.

As part of its scholarship mission, the organization presents THE HBCU EXPERIENCE, its signature concert and scholarship fundraiser. Now in its fourth installment, THE HBCU EXPERIENCE Vol. 4 celebrates the music, culture, and enduring legacy of HBCUs while raising funds to provide scholarships for students pursuing an HBCU education.

The choir has performed at prominent venues and high-profile events throughout Chicago, including the United Center, Wrigley Field, Soldier Field, the Obama Presidential Center, and as part of Shonda Rhimes’ Year of Yes book tour.
