About:
Melancholia
A Collective Runway Show
Produced by Luwwe Studio at Epiphany Center for the Arts: Catacombs
Everything you love will end. Beauty and loss are inseparable. Melancholia is a collective runway show featuring designers Xanthe Sparkman, Mariana Alaniss, and Soraya Annibali. With the main themes curated by Luwwe Studios Art Director Olivia Bolaños.
Centered around the relationship between beauty, loss, and change, the show reflects on the parts of being human that are often difficult to sit with. It is about the passing of time, the things we leave behind, and the strange beauty that can exist in moments of uncertainty and decay.
Melancholy has long been connected to creativity, introspection, and the way we make sense of the world. Yet, in a culture that encourages constant productivity and forward movement, there is little room for sadness, stillness, or simply being. Melancholia pushes back against the idea that these feelings are something to fix. Instead, it asks what we might discover if we allowed ourselves to feel them fully.
Through the individual perspectives of Xanthe Sparkman, Mariana Alaniss, and Soraya Annibali, the show brings together different interpretations of this shared theme. Fashion becomes a way to explore the tension between softness and strength, nature and industry, life and death. The work considers how we change, what we hold onto, and how our surroundings shape the way we see ourselves and others.
The world of Melancholia draws inspiration from abandoned cemeteries, overgrown gardens, and nature slowly reclaiming what has been built over it. Dying flowers, raw materials, and industrial structures exist side by side, creating a landscape that feels both haunting and alive. References to spirituality, mythology, artificial intelligence, power, and control reflect a world caught between the natural and the man-made, the familiar and the unknown. Produced by Luwwe Studio at Epiphany Center for the Arts, Melancholia brings these ideas together through fashion and artistic expression. This showcase is more than a presentation of clothing, it is an invitation to reflect on the inevitability of change and the emotions that come with it.
At its heart, Melancholia is about accepting that nothing stays the same. The things we love are temporary, and endings are often painful, but they are also part of what makes life meaningful. There is beauty in what is fleeting, just as there is possibility in what has been broken down. Sometimes, things must fall apart for something new to grow.
Melancholia asks us not to look away from that process, but to find beauty in it
