About:
The Fulton Chamber Players is a classical music ensemble uniting world-class artists to present exceptional programs. Our members are passionate about bringing the highest quality performances to all audiences as well as inspiring the next generation of musicians.
Recent seasons have taken the members of FCP to audiences both in the US and abroad. The ensemble debuted in 2022 in a collaborative pop-up with Michelin-starred chefs in Chicago, and they continue to cultivate partnerships across the globe. Recent seasons have featured tours to Taiwan, Japan, Portland, Miami, Hawai’i, Canada, and across the Midwest. Upcoming concerts will take them to national concert halls in Taiwan, Vietnam, Hawai’i, and at major festivals and concert series across the Continental US, often in collaboration with guest artists and all while giving back to the communities they visit through masterclasses for local students.
The Fulton Chamber Players operates under the aegis of the Fulton Music Society, a nonprofit dedicated to transforming what music means in the 21st century by nurturing thoughtful, well-rounded students through dedicated music study. We are working to connect the dots between student life and the professional world by emphasizing skills and experiences that translate beyond their instruments. Through Fulton’s programs, young musicians will be ready to lead their generation in any field they choose. Learn more at www.fultonmusicsociety.org.

About:
Ravenswood Winds (RWW) is a Chicago-based woodwind quintet dedicated to exploring the confluence of traditional classical composition and modern rock sensibilities. Keenly interested in how such disparate worlds can be brought together, RWW’s performances often feature the reedy, earthy idiosyncrasies found in the typical wind quintet instrumentation coupled with the unexpected tonal qualities and rhythm that are more prevalent coming from an electric guitar, bass, or drums.
Formed in 2015, RWW has performed at numerous locations around Chicago, including Evanston SPACE, the Lurie Garden at the Art Institute of Chicago, Art Makers Outpost, Fulton Street Collective, and in partnership with Classical Revolution Chicago. RWW frequently combines performance with education as they weave songs together to create a narrative for the listener. Concise and intricate pieces performed for the court versus rousing sea shanties for the common worker to illustrate the similarities and differences between class systems. Or “Ventis in Horto,” wind quintet music inspired by the work of Jean-Luc Mylayne.
In 2017 RWW shifted from the common literature written for wind quintet to focuson the concept of a show exploring the works of rock and indie artists like Alanis Morissette, Radiohead, and others. This departure from the typical quintet aesthetic explores the works of these individualsvia original arrangements, digital tape looping, and effects processing, asking the question “what does it mean to play 21st century literature with 18th century instrumentation?” Their fan favorite ongoing series entitled “Ravenswood Winds Play Radiohead” continuesto be showcased in the Chicagoland area.

Attend the Artist Talk with Lee Bey and Howard Simmons discussing Simmons’ photography exhibit Stories my Camera Tells: Once Upon a Chicago on Wednesday, August 7, at 6:30pm.
Join us for an artist talk with two Chicago trailblazers. Lee Bey, Chicago Sun-Times architecture columnist, editorial board member, and renowned commentator on late 20th century Black history and culture, sits down with photographer Howard Simmons for a discussion about Simmons’ exhibit Stories my Camera Tells: Once Upon a Chicago. The exhibit encompasses Simmons’ extensive, 50-year photography career and significant work as one of the first Black photographers for the Chicago Sun-Times.
From a trove of thousands of images photographed between the 1970’s through the early 2000’s, Stories my Camera Tells: Once Upon a Chicago features a selection of Simmons’ favorite images of notable Chicago personalities and politicians, Chicago street scenes, and iconic images from photoshoots for Ebony magazine and his work in commercial photography. The exhibit includes both celebrated images that document important moments in American history as well as Simmons’ never-before-seen photography. VOICE BOX: STORYTELLING…WITH A MUSICAL TWIST!
Epiphany Center for the Arts – Sanctuary
Saturday, August 10, 2024 – 8:00pm
Join us for a storytelling event that will take you on an untamed journey of inspiring stories that empower and unite! Voice Box features the wildly entertaining Mistress of Ceremonies, Maureen Muldoon, who curates a raucous evening of storytelling with a musical twist. Cathy Richardson, lead singer of Jefferson Starship launches the program with her song and theme “It’s About Time,” which inspires a story that in turn, inspires a spontaneous music response by Richardson. Described as a “story, a slam, a song, a serenade, a surrender,” Voice Box in Epiphany’s intimate Sanctuary performance space is a place to be heard and hear about the human condition.
VOICE BOX STORYTELLING is being presented as part of Epiphany’s inaugural FEST of US! festival on August 10: A multifaceted art, music and entertainment experience that transcends ‘otherness’ and celebrates the community in US!
About Maureen Muldoon
Maureen is an international speaker, writer, storyteller, and songbird who believes in the miraculous power of storytelling. She helps people tell their truth to expand their reach, leave their mark, and honor their lives. Her career began working in TV & film as an actress, writer, and producer, co-starred and guest-starred on shows like Dexter, CSI, and ER. She has been murdered by Brian Dennehy, seduced by Pierce Bronson, and turned into a monkey, a junkie, a jewel thief, and a thousand jilted lovers. But that’s just show biz. Maureen is an award-winning writer who has authored four books. Currently, she hosts writing retreats and spiritual adventures, taking creatives and spiritual seekers to sacred locations domestically, internationally, and, of course, internally.
About Cathy Richardson
It’s hard to think of any musician who’s had a more varied career than Chicago-based singer Cathy Richardson; from scrappy indie rock singer selling albums out of her car to commercial jingles, off-Broadway stage productions to fronting Jefferson Starship and a variety of side projects, she also picked up a Grammy nomination along the way. The twists and turns of her career feel impossible to follow, and incredibly unlikely, but are owed to the vast range of Richardson’s dynamite-packed vocal cords and her dogged perseverance to achieve goals she set as a teenager.

About KAIA:
From the tango of the Rio de la Plata to the string quartets of Silvestre Revueltas, the KAIA String Quartet is an ensemble devoted to promoting the rich and colorful music of Latin America. Active performers in both the US and abroad, highlights of the most recent season include a collaboration with Jazz singer Paul Marinaro and performances at Chicago area venues including the Studebaker Theatre, the Epiphany Center for the Arts, the Morton Arboretum, the Mozart Immersive Experience, and the Kenilworth Assembly Hall. The quartet's most recent tour of Uruguay and Argentina included a performance at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
The Quartet plays an active role in Chicago's music scene and has performed at the Chicago Latino Music Festival, the Ear Taxi Festival, and Chamber Music on the Fox. In 2017, KAIA was the first ensemble in residence at Chicago's classical radio station, WFMT. During this residency they explored the world of Latin classical music with audiences through daily radio segments, performances and broadcasts around the city and the production of KAIA Kids, a series of children's education videos.
Celebrated by Downbeat magazine for its ability to "beautifully blur the lines between jazz, classical, Latin and world music" KAIA’s album collaboration with Fareed Haque was chosen by Chicago Tribune’s Howard Reich as one of the top ten classical recordings of 2018. Their album, Sureño, explores the music and relationship of Argentinian composers Astor Piazzolla and José Bragato. The latest recording project released in 2020 includes a collaboration with jazz pianist Ryan Cohan in his work Originations. KAIA together with Cohan and his chamber ensemble were featured performing this piece at 2019 Chicago's Jazz Fest main stage.
KAIA is deeply devoted to music education. They are teaching artists for Ravinia's Reach*Teach*Play program and for Classical Music Chicago's Young Peoples' Concerts program. KAIA founded DePaul University's Community Music Division chamber program where they inspire the next generation of performers. During the 2023-24 season, the KAIA String Quartet was invited to teach and perform at Michigan State University and Carthage College as artists-in-residence. In the summer of 2023, KAIA was on the New England Music Camp's Chamber Music Intensive faculty as the resident quartet and will be returning in the summer of 2024. Since 2018, KAIA has been the ensemble-in-residence for the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra's Summer Chamber Music Camp. The quartet traveled to Tijuana, Mexico to present and perform in schools through the sponsorship of the Mainly Mozart Festival annually between 2013 and 2017.

BREAKING BOUNDARIES both musical and geographical, cellist, composer, and multilingual vocalist IAN MAKSIN has created his own unique style by blending elements of different genres and traditional music from around the globe in a new way using his cello as the main unifying force.
ONE-MAN ORCHESTRA: He uses the loop pedal and other electronic devices to augment the sound of the cello and turn it into a virtual orchestra.
SINGING IN 34 LANGUAGES: What began as a hobby and a passion for linguistics and travel has become part of a unique concert experience. Ian Maksin sings in Ukrainian, Polish, English, Farsi, Armenian, French, Italian, Arabic, Hebrew, Mongolian, Bambara (one of the tongues spoken in West Africa), and many other exotic languages. Most of this repertoire was amassed by Maksin during his world travels, jam sessions, and collaborations with local musicians. Many of his original songs and instrumental compositions are infused with flavors of ethnic music from countries and regions where he drew inspiration: Mongolia, West Africa, the Middle East, the Balkans, and Andalusian flamenco.
THE GLOBAL MUSICIAN: Born in the former USSR into a multinational family, Ian grew up absorbing many cultures and traditions from an early age. He began playing guitar and piano at age 3 and cello at age 6 at the School for Gifted Children in Leningrad, then came to the USA at 16 to continue his studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. After working for many years in the classical genre, including a three-year tenure with the New World Symphony in Miami, Ian decided to look for his own musical path. His diverse musical experience, including playing rock and blues guitar and his passion for jazz and world music, has allowed him to take the cello to a new dimension and develop his own distinct style as a musician and composer. In Ian's own words: "At some point, I realized that music is much more than mere entertainment. Instead, it is one of the most powerful forces in the world, capable of healing, inspiring, bringing people together, and bringing peace among them. I believe that the cello will save the world.”

About Smiley Tillmon Band:
One of the busiest blues outfits in Chicagoland, the Smiley Tillmon Band is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. There’s an obvious reason why the veteran guitarist’s booking schedule is so jam-packed: Smiley knows how to have a good time and makes sure his audience does too. After 55 years on the local blues scene, Tillmon serves up the blues and soul standards that people never seem to stop craving, his rich vocals and fluid guitar backed by a band that keeps his grooves tight and right.
Born Moses Tillmon in rural Jefferson County, Georgia, Smiley grew up on a hearty musical diet of gospel, country, and a little blues. His mother moved to Fort Lauderdale when he was ten; there he was exposed to calypso music, adding up to a singular list of influences. Tillmon took up guitar and was good enough by the dawn of the ‘60s to back Miami R&B singer Billy Miranda in the studio. He joined Sammy Ambrose & the Afro-Beats, a calypso-oriented band, touring from Canada to New York. Smiley bid the Afro-Beats adieu in 1962 and moved to Chicago. There he established himself on the blues circuit, playing with Billy “The Kid” Emerson, Denise LaSalle, and other South Side luminaries until he opted for a day job in 1977.
Upon his 2007 retirement, Smiley reverted to full-time musical status. He joined forces with bassist Tom Rezetko, and they’ve been inseparable onstage ever since. Kate Moss shares guitar duties with Tillmon; married to another blues guitar standout, Nick Moss, Kate’s sound is heavily influenced by Freddie King and Magic Sam (she fell in love with the blues at age 21 when she met Buddy Guy, and she’s shared stages with Buddy, Jimmy Johnson, Eddie Shaw, and Lurrie Bell, to name just a few). Drummer George Baumann completes one of the Windy City’s toughest blues combos, one that’ll keep you smiling from ear to ear. - Bill Dahl

- Bill Dahl

About Deep Cricket Night:
Deep Cricket Night has come out of the pandemic with a sonic - style shift through the wormhole. We used the roots at the portal's gate as a ladder, climbing out of our past sound. The present sound regards fulfilling the new, post-pandemic range. For practical cliches, our sound is now akin to Joy Division meets 1970 Pink Floyd with Syd still in the room. The band is comprised of Lance Drake (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Greg MacAyeal(Bass), Dave Buoscio (Piano/Organ), Michael Ressler (drums).
Musically, DCN builds their original sound highlighted by the lead bass hooks of Greg MacAyeal and the vocal-lyrical strength of the band's primary songwriter, Lance Drake.
About Medical Miracle:
Medical Miracle is a two piece Chicago melancholic rock/ dream pop band powered by twinkly guitars and sad hearts
