About:
Angelo Hart has always had a unique and expressive approach to his instrument. Angelo has spent personal time studying jazz and classical legends such as Thelonius Monk, Art Tatum, Cecil Taylor, Oscar Peterson, Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Debussy, Liszt, Chopin, Beethoven, and many more. Time spent with the great educators and musicians in Chicago, along with his natural innovative musicianship has molded him into the great musician that he is today. He approaches the piano with command and finesse, displaying a unique relationship and connection between the two of them.
Charles Mingus is one of the great composers, musicians, and visionaries of all time. In jazz, he paved a path for musicians and composers to explore new and exciting veins of creative and improvisational music. This night of music will be a celebration of the creative genius that is Charles Mingus. All pieces are inspired by a Mingus composition, album, or by his creative vision. A quartet, led by Angelo Hart, and including Jake Wark on sax, Ben Dillinger on bass and Tommaso Moretti on drums, the goal is always to create an organic and flowing conversation between musicians. One characteristic of Charles Mingus's arrangements is group or collective improvisation. We see it in many of his different groups. The quartet will embody Mingus's approach to this while trying to capture the spirit of Mingus.

About:
Syrian Heart. Midwest Soul.
Bassel & The Supernaturals tells the story of Bassel Almadani's experience as a first generation Syrian-American using soulful melodies, funk inspired rhythms, and captivating lyrics regarding love, loss, and the war in Syria.
Deeply inspired by Otis Redding, Bassel uses the stage as a vehicle to engage audiences in over 100 different cities across North America. In addition to performing in major festivals, performance halls, concert series, and clubs - the group works closely with organizations on events and residencies that build awareness and empathy for Syrian refugees. A substantial portion of their proceeds benefit the Karam Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization focused on building a better future for Syria.
Their sophomore release, Elements (2017), was premiered by Noisey/Vice, and led to their involvement in the nationally-acclaimed SXSW 2017 showcase 'ContraBanned: #MusicUnites' featuring artists from the diaspora of countries targeted by the travel ban. They've since been featured on PRI, Al Jazeera, Reuters, Paste Magazine, Huffington Post, NowThis, and many others. The album draws inspiration from artists such as Snarky Puppy, Jamiroquai, and Steely Dan's "Aja."
Bassel & The Supernaturals has performed in over 300 concerts between 2016-2019 on stages including SXSW, John F. Kennedy Center, Summerfest, and Millennium Park, and supporting internationally touring artists such as Youssou N'Dour, Brother Ali, Aesop Rock, Emancipator, The Dandy Warhols, Sinkane, and many others.
Upon returning from a service trip to Istanbul in September 2019 working with displaced Syrians, Bassel & The Supernaturals released their full-length album, Smoke & Mirrors, in April 2020. "Stepping Back in Time" was featured on Spotify's official "All Funked Up" playlist and recently surpassed 500,000 streams. The band collaborated with TedX Talks as well on their music video for “Calculated Love” featuring Chicago’s resilient youth in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

About:
About Sgraffito: Sgraffito draws inspiration from the decorative technique of decoration produced by applying plaster in layers tinted in contrasting colors and then revealing the underlying layer through delicate scratching. In this case, a delicate surface texture is scraped to reveal a substrate of explosive speed and complex interactions between instruments.
Pianist Marianne Parker’s playing has been described as “a cut above...her sympathetic fingers offering well-sculpted phrases and impassioned pealing” (Chicago Classical Review). Her debut album, Pages intimes, released in early 2019, features recently re-discovered works by Haitian composers. Marianne has curated an anthology of 21st century works for solo piano through NewMusicShelf. An active chamber musician, Marianne co-founded the marimba and piano new music ensemble L+M Duo in 2016 with marimbist Laurel Black. The duo is committed to commissioning new work for their instrumentation by today’s composers. They were featured in Chamber Music Magazine; performed at the Nief-Norf New Music Festival in Knoxville, TN; and produced a public concert in Chicago to celebrate the centennial of the iconic Wrigley Building. A fierce advocate of New Music, Parker is in demand as a collaborator for instrumentalists and vocalists alike. She serves as Vice President of the membership group New Music Chicago and coproduces the monthly series New Music Chicago Presents... at the Chicago Cultural Center. Marianne performs with many prominent chamber ensembles across the Midwest, including Milwaukee’s Present Music, and Chicago’s Access Contemporary Music, Fourth Coast Ensemble, Crossing Borders Music, and more. Marianne served as the principal pianist for the Chicago Civic Orchestra, and has performed under the batons of Riccardo Muti, Jaap Van Zweden, Michael Tilson Thomas, Ludovic Morlot, Carlos Miguel Prieto, and Michael Christy. Marianne’s work is driven by her passion to communicate the vibrancy and variety of classical music, especially to those who have yet to discover it.
Gregory Oakes is an exciting and energetic clarinetist performer and a passionate champion of the music of our time. From his Carnegie Hall debut with members of Ensemble Intercontemporain and Pierre Boulez to his performances as a member of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, he has been praised by critics for his “outstanding performance” (New York Times) and “jazzy flourishes” (Denver Post). He has appeared as a concerto soloist with such esteemed ensembles as the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and the Denver Brass, played at Amsterdam’s new music hall, Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, and been a featured soloist at the prestigious MaerzMusik festival in Berlin. He has been a featured artist at multiple International Clarinet Association ClarinetFests, the New Music Gathering, the International Computer Music Conference, the Karnatic Lab concert series (Amsterdam), the Crested Butte Chamber Music Festival, and Boulder’s Modern Music Festival. Greg has also toured Brazil, Thailand, and the Netherlands and been in residence at Princeton University, Harvard University, Dartmouth College, and the Aspen Music Festival. In the summer, he is on the faculty of The Cortona Sessions festival for new music in Tuscany, Italy. Greg’s recordings have been released on Bridge, Centaur, CRI, Gothic, Karnatic Lab Records, and Naxos and broadcast on National Public Radio. His CD Aesthetic Apparatus: Clarinet Chamber Music of Helmut Lachenmann appears on New Focus Recordings. Greg is on the faculty of Iowa State University and is principal clarinet of the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra. He is a Buffet Group USA and Vandoren Performing Artist.

About:
The Freddie Dixon Blues Band consists of a group of South Side Chicago Blues greats anchored by Doktu Rhute Muuzic, Maurice John Vaughan, and of course the inimitable Freddie Dixon! What they have in common is that they are all steeped in the traditions of the music as well as creators of their own powerful songs. They are carrying on the work of blues pioneers like Willie Dixon, Otis Clay, A.C. Reed, and more.
If one word could describe this "creative" named Fernando Jones it would be rare. This multi-instrumentalist started off by playing the Blues on the guitar when he was just four years old. Today, he's still going strong as a bandleader. This world-class, internationally known American Bluesman, educator and songwriter was born to loving Mississippi parents on the Southside of Chicago. They were advocates for education and the arts. Jones is one of a few living African American Bluesmen to have a tribute album of his compositions done by a band on a different continent; Jona's Blues Band of Rome, Italy is the group.
Jones has performed his compositions from basement parties to the University of Hawaii to The Smithsonian Institute to the Conservatory of Music in Pescara, Italy to nightclubs in Havana, Cuba. Here is a sample of his scholarly writing in the Journal of Popular Music Studies and awards. In January 2020, the National Association of Music Merchants invited him to host a lecture on the impact of Blues Pedagogy. As a lecturer Fernando Jones has established Blues Camps for youths on the continents of Asia, Europe, North America and the Caribbean island of Cuba. Here's an interview on him done by The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library.

About:
Hailed by the Chicago Tribune for its " stirring contributions to the art song genre", LYNX, also known as LYNX Project, is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that amplifies diverse voices through new song commissions, inclusive concerts, and educational programming. Founded in 2015, LYNX was formed to revitalize the genre of art song and share it with new audiences.
LYNX is passionate about bringing modern voices and new perspectives into the art song canon. LYNX's Amplify Series (formerly Autism Advocacy Series) sets the poetry of primarily nonspeaking autistic individuals in new song commissions and directly connects neurodiverse communities to professional artistic experiences. To further serve the autistic and nonspeaking communities, LYNX has augmented the educational opportunities within this series to feature inclusive poetry-writing courses.
LYNX was the subject of a 2017 documentary by Purdy Productions for the Amplify Series. In the 2021-22 season, LYNX published an anthology of sheet music from this series with NewMusicShelf, and released their debut album beautiful small things on the ArtistShare label to critical acclaim.
In addition to performance initiatives, which include the Amplify Series and Snapshots of Every Voice, LYNX is passionate about music education opportunities for youth. In Composition of a City, classical and hip hop artists co-teach songwriting classes for teens. With the support of an Alumni Enterprise Award from the Music Academy of the West, LYNX developed an online curriculum for Composition of a City that is free to educators for in-person, virtual, and hybrid learning. In the first six months of deployment, this curriculum reached over 400 students, primarily from the South and West Sides of Chicago. Through generous partnership with WFMT Chicago, LYNX has additionally augmented this curriculum to serve students with a variety of learning differences.
Since its founding, LYNX has commissioned more than 40 poets and composers through its Amplify Series. Championing emerging and established artists, LYNX offers meaningful artistic opportunities and fosters deep connections between artists and communities. LYNX is now led by Executive Director Caitleen Kahn and Artistic Director Florence Mak.

About:
Born in 1973 in Santurce, Puerto Rico to Cuban parents, composer Armando Bayolo began musical studies at the age of twelve. At sixteen he went on to study at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan, where he first began the serious study of composition. He holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music (B.M. 1995), where his teachers were Samuel Adler, Joseph Schwantner and Christopher Rouse; Yale University (M.M. 1997), where he studied with Roberto Sierra, Jacob Druckman, Ingram Marshall and Martin Bresnick; and the University of Michigan (D.M.A. 2001) where he studied with Michael Daugherty, Bright Sheng and Evan Chambers.
Mr. Bayolo has been hailed for his "suggestive aural imagination" (El Nuevo Día) in works that are "full of lush ideas and a kind of fierce grandeur, (unfolding) with subtle, driving power" (The Washington Post). His "music combines the audacity of popular music, the verve-filled rhythmic language of Latin America, and the pugnacity of postmodern classicism into a heady, formidable concoction" (Sequenza21), and "deserves to be heard many more times, and in many more places.
