About Feestet Trio:

Feestet (pronounced “Feest-tet”) is a Madison-based “gateway jazz” ensemble fronted by vocalist Helen Feest. 
 
For the Golden Hour, Feestet will perform as a trio featuring Jack Miles Johnson, on piano. They are joined by the project’s primary composer/arranger, Anthony Utehs, on guitar. Meet them on feestet.com.

My 1.5 year old son says only a handful of words- wow, momma, daddy, ball, truck, fraise, ciao. The week I committed to this exhibition at Epiphany, he added a new word: birthday.

Birthday is about how scary it is to begin. The first scream, first smile, first word, first step, first fall. The moment my son was born I was certain I was dying. In the days and months that followed it still wasn’t clear as we existed in a new web of pain, euphoria and wonder. It helps to have something to hug, something to hold you up. A live camera is positioned above his crib and I watch him while he sleeps.

A birthday is a celebration, a renewal, but also a reckoning. Sometimes counting up feels like counting down, and the beginning is also an ending. The work in this show is holding on and letting go. The subject matter appears familiar, a stuffed animal, a lifejacket, stills from the baby monitor.  Materials in the show include silk, human hair and hair salon foils. Having grown up in a hair salon, these objects and images anchor me to my own childhood, my own history of birthdays and the crescendo of time passing. The week Birthday opens my son will turn 2.

This series of paintings and drawings explores the enduring spirit of Pierrot—the iconic French character who embodies poetic vulnerability, theatrical grace, and quiet melancholy.

L'esprit de Pierrot (The Spirit of Pierrot) is not a character study—it is an atmosphere. The works evoke fragility, introspection, and the unspoken drama of being. Each piece exists in a suspended moment between stillness and performance, between reality and reverie. Through subtle gesture and deliberate restraint, the artwork creates an emotional atmosphere that transcends literal representation. The compositions become mirrors, inviting viewers to project their own inner theater onto each image.

With this exhibition, WERIEM invites viewers to pause within these contemplative spaces, to feel the weight of unspoken emotion, and to recognize the delicate ways in which beauty, loss, and imagination intertwine in our daily performance of being human.

The Filipino American experience is a story of cultural fusion. With a heritage woven from Malay, Chinese, Spanish, American, and indigenous influences, Filipinos have cultivated a rich cultural tapestry. As immigrants, Filipino Americans have further diversified this vibrant heritage, creating a natural predisposition to adaptation and an appreciation of inter-cultural exchange. Attend the opening reception for Liz McCarthy’s Imperfect Players on Friday, September 19th, from 6:00-9:00pm.

Imperfect Players is a collection of ceramic vessels that can be performed as musical instruments and accompanied by drawings.

I worked at an auction house creating condition reports for fine and decorative art. These objects were valuable for their aesthetic, craft, and cultural histories. I often studied ceramic vases closely and under a black light to find the imperfections: cracks, chips, and many networks of hidden repair. They had their own material stories in the flaws of their production and accumulation of wear. These imperfections degraded their value, but also served as evidence of their authenticity. 

I am a similar vessel. My human body has sustained physical and psychological changes and damage, and I hold that with me as I function day to day. Especially after giving birth to my child, I was very aware of dramatic shifts to my mind and body, and I struggled to perform as I once did. Imperfect Players is a response to that corporal rift. These forms are adorned with their own broken and fused pieces, just as I hold onto memories and my material body holds scars and strain of the past. Although broken, these vessels are also instruments that can be played to make musical sounds.
Imperfect Players celebrates imperfect and broken vessels that disrupt the idealized form, and still function as instruments in the world.

She regularly records & tours globally with musical sensation “Postmodern Jukebox”, amassing millions of views online, and sings with some of Chicago’s top swing bands & musicians. Join us for Devil’s in the Details, Chicago’s inaugural two-day robot and animation dance festival. Featuring live music, art, dance workshops, technology demonstrations, a showcase competition, and a head-to-head dance battle with a unique twist, Devil’s in the Details reimagines how robot and animation dance is presented through a fresh multidisciplinary approach.

Highlights:

● 1v1 Robot & Animation Dance Battle: Battles are head-to-head competitions where dancers freestyle to random music by a live DJ. Devil’s in the Details combines this with a unique twist where the Top 16 dancers will freestyle to specific concepts that demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and creative exploration of robot and animation dance.

● Busking-Inspired Showcase Competition: Robot and animation dance are rooted in busking, also known as street performance. Devil’s in the Details reimagines this tradition in an invitational showcase style competition. Spectators will be invited to participate by voting for their favorite performance through a ticket-in-the-hat system.

● Dance Workshops and Tech Demos: The pioneers of robot and animation dance created these styles by emulating the technology of their time. Devil’s in the Details blends dance education with technological insight in workshops and tech demos designed to show dancers how to explore and generate their own movement inspired by first hand reference material, rather than merely emulating the movement of other dancers.

Devil’s in the Details will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025 in The Sanctuary at Epiphany Center for the Arts. Doors open at 2 PM, prelims for the 1v1 battle will begin at 3 PM, and the main event will begin at 5 PM.

About:

Alejandro Urzagaste is a midwestern native of South American descent. He studied guitar at Northern Illinois University with Fareed Haque after graduating St. Charles High School and being in the Jazz Workshop.

Alejandro released "Urban Intervals," in January 2012 featuring pianist Jodie Christian. In 2018 “Subject to Change,” was his first with the quartet Flow featuring Bill Carrothers on piano followed by “This From That,” in 2020. 

“Universal Translation,” is scheduled to be released and was recorded at Creation Audio in Minneapolis featuring Anthony Cox on bass and Ethan Kogan on drums. This latest quartet recording proves to be his best yet featuring the sounds of a stellar rhythm section and the accompaniment of Bill Carrothers,

Alejandro has toured and performed with Jodie Christian, Von Freeman, Rodney Whitaker, Ron Blake, Bobby Broom, Ron Perrillo, Fred Anderson, Malachi Favors and Deana Martin. 

He is the owner of North Shore Music and plays Hofner guitars.

About:

Vivian Garcia is a Chicago based singer-songwriter. Her musical journey has taken her from studying rumba flamenca rhythms in Granada, Spain to jamming with international folk musicians in Madrid as well as singing with various bands in Chicago. Vivian has performed at The Taste of Chicago, Metro,Thalia Hall, House of Blues, Double Door, Uncommon Ground as well as World Music Fest, Mole de Mayo, Pilsen Fest,Villapalooza and many local venues. She’s opened for Grammy winners La Santa Cecilia as well as Centavrvs and Amigos Invisibles. Cold Bed is her first album and her latest EP, In Between Times, released February 2016 , had her song Ven Conmigo featured on the daytime Emmy nominated show East Los High on HULU. 

Vivian composed a guitar piece in 2022 for the Chicago White Sox to commemorate the induction of Minnie Miñoso into the Hall of Fame.

In 2023 Vivian had a song placed in the award winning film “The Persian Version” that won Audience award at Sundance and is distributed by Sony Pictures and currently steaming on Netflix!

Originating from Lincoln, Nebraska, Daniel is a distinguished pianist and composer, acclaimed for his ability to evoke powerful emotions thru his music. He holds a Masters degree in Piano Performance from the UMKC Conservatory and a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from HastingsCollege.

He has cultivated a musical voice that gracefully merges classical elements, cinematic qualities and minimalist characteristics. His main vehicle is the piano merged w/ electronics/percussion and Daniel’s compositions resonate w/ both seasoned musicians and casual listeners, creating a profound impact on a diverse audience.

In addition to his solo projects, he has established a niche full-time career writing music for dance. He has worked w/ notable companies such as Jacob Jonas, Whim Whim, Salt Dance, and most recently the Kansas City Ballet Company to name a few. His music has been listened to over 100 million times and featured in countless films worldwide. Philip also maintains an active performing career, touring throughout the US in the fall and spring.

Daniel currently resides in Lincoln, Nebraska with his wife, dog and daughter.

About Frank Russell:

Acclaimed Chicago Jazz bass guitarist Frank Russell is the official bassist for the legendary South African a cappella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Frank won the prestigious 2020 Jeff Award with them as the musical director for the play Lindiwe.  Frank has also recorded or performed live with legendary jazz artists ranging from Freddie Hubbard, Ramsey Lewis, Wallace Rooney, Michael Wolf, Mike Clark, The Headhunters and more. Frank's trio will consist of brilliant musicians - Kevin O’Connell on keyboards and Tim Davis on drums.
