About:
If you were around during Chicago’s underground House Music movement or Rave scene in the late 80’s and early 90’s, then you’ll be utterly familiar with the name Julio Bishop. Whether from appearing weekly on some of the hottest party flyers throughout the Midwest or because you had a copy of his now infamous mix tape, “Love Nation” sold out of all the local record stores, the name Julio Bishop is synonymous with jacking dance floors since 1987.
Getting his start as a dancer and DJ in Chicago’s nightclubs and warehouses, but soon expanding his influence; from NYC to LA, to the beaches of Miami, Puerto Rico and Mexico, Germany and Sicily, Julio has been bringing his deep, mystifying grooves to the world for over 3 decades. His intimate knowledge of classic Afro-Latin and Jazz, , as well as his acquired proficiency of Disco, Electronica, Club & Deep House takes his sets far outside the realm of what is attainable by a greener selection of DJ’s.
Funneling his talents into the studio in the early 2000’s, Julio helped launch RealDEEP Recordings, along side label partner Brian Cullen (aka Bjak) where, together they paved the way to further coproductions and solo projects on labels such as Deep Explorer Music (Madrid) and Eargasmic Recordings (Chicago).
With more releases on the way and a selection of upcoming gigs scheduled between Chicago. Puerto Rico, LA & Hawaii, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for what’s to come next from this proved House Music veteran.

About Smiley Tillmon Band:
One of the busiest blues outfits in Chicagoland, the Smiley Tillmon Band is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. There’s an obvious reason why the veteran guitarist’s booking schedule is so jam-packed: Smiley knows how to have a good time and makes sure his audience does too. After 55 years on the local blues scene, Tillmon serves up the blues and soul standards that people never seem to stop craving, his rich vocals and fluid guitar backed by a band that keeps his grooves tight and right.
Born Moses Tillmon in rural Jefferson County, Georgia, Smiley grew up on a hearty musical diet of gospel, country, and a little blues. His mother moved to Fort Lauderdale when he was ten; there he was exposed to calypso music, adding up to a singular list of influences. Tillmon took up guitar and was good enough by the dawn of the ‘60s to back Miami R&B singer Billy Miranda in the studio. He joined Sammy Ambrose & the Afro-Beats, a calypso-oriented band, touring from Canada to New York. Smiley bid the Afro-Beats adieu in 1962 and moved to Chicago. There he established himself on the blues circuit, playing with Billy “The Kid” Emerson, Denise LaSalle, and other South Side luminaries until he opted for a day job in 1977.
Upon his 2007 retirement, Smiley reverted to full-time musical status. He joined forces with bassist Tom Rezetko, and they’ve been inseparable onstage ever since. Kate Moss shares guitar duties with Tillmon; married to another blues guitar standout, Nick Moss, Kate’s sound is heavily influenced by Freddie King and Magic Sam (she fell in love with the blues at age 21 when she met Buddy Guy, and she’s shared stages with Buddy, Jimmy Johnson, Eddie Shaw, and Lurrie Bell, to name just a few). Drummer George Baumann completes one of the Windy City’s toughest blues combos, one that’ll keep you smiling from ear to ear. - Bill Dahl

About Jade Maze:
Jade Maze mixes soul, jazz, and pop into one big heart-filled voice. From the first note, you know she is singing about lived experiences. Whether sharing a H.E.R. cover, a jazz standard, or an original song, her delivery is profound and unique. She started out with soul and jazz bands on the West Coast, toured with her original band on the East Coast, and made Chicago her home in the mid-90s, where she split duties between her own band and singing with jazz/blues/contemporary ensembles. She loves the intimacy of duo work as well, especially with guitar, bass, or piano.
Jade also happens to be an award-winning author. Her debut memoir, Walk Until Sunrise, took a first-place world literary prize (Rome), and the follow-up memoir entitled Mercy’s View: Blackout won a 2025 Best Book Pinnacle Achievement Award. The memoirs chronicle her teenage runaway experience, her reentry into society, and her singing career. To offset the intensity of that work, Jade writes short stories where at least one of the story characters is a singer (Music Notes: Tales from an American Singer). They are hilarious!
So come hear some songs, read a book, have a refreshing beverage, and enjoy!

Jade and Bradley reunite for a night of music that personifies the rich, heartwarming notes of a hot mulled red wine.
About Bradley Williams:
Grammy-nominated pianist/arranger with Woody Herman’s Thundering Herd, creator of The Original 21st Century Review, Musical Director at both The Gold Star Sardine Bar and, currently, Le Piano in Chicago on Saturday nights. Toured with his ensembles in the Middle East and India. Internationally syndicated Radio Personality on WFMT’s “Words and Music.” Composer and Educator.

About Five Too Nine Community Meeting:
Why is it so hard to share the very thing we love creating? This month at Five Too Nine, we’re unpacking the courage it takes to put your work out into the world. Whether it’s a painting, a poem, a song, or a project you’ve kept tucked away, this conversation is for anyone who’s ever second-guessed hitting “post.”
Together, we’ll explore the line between pride and perfectionism, talk through the fears that hold us back, and find strength in community as we practice being seen — unapologetically.

About:
lakefx:
lakefx is the newborn brainchild of Chicago-based artists Mithra & relativity lounge. A pure homage to dub-rooted music & all its intricacies, the two layer live production elements onto the art of crate-digging to create a lush environment for dancers & enthusiasts alike. From downtempo to techno & beyond, no spaced-out niche is left untouched.
Inspired by countless excursions on Lake Michigan, Lakefx brings the hypnotic ambiance of flowing water to the dancefloor.
Mentrek:
The Mentrek Project has been brewing since 2022.
What started as a series of modular jam sessions and late night hangouts began to take shape over 2023 and 2024, as they invited more of our friends to spend an evening banging out dance tunes. Over the years it's grown to involve 10 artists, unified under the vision of club-ready, bass- heavy tracks molded by Nuan Sonar and Thysbe.
As they’ve progressed and grew through these collaborations, a system emerged. Hours of recordings of eurorack synthesizers, analog drum machines, and vintage records would then be cut up and arranged. Each track aims to have a solid progression, morphing between techno, dubstep, breaks, and footwork. We refuse to be put in a box, and are constantly experimenting and stealing ideas to refit to our own ideals.
RED40:
Lake Effect’s merry pranksters Swesdo & Rimjickles have joined forces to present a dive into the fantastic. WARNING: RED40’s whimsical, dialed, and gyration inducing grooves may result in: erratic movements, existential crisis, involuntary joy amongst loved ones, and the urge to smoke 4 or 5 CBD darts. You may leave with the urge to worldbuild amongst your groupchat, no matter how many messages it takes to drive your point home. Let's kick off the evening in shplendrick style and soak up the RED40…

About:
Nogu Svelo!, the legendary punk rock band originated in Russia and is now based in the United States. Known for their energetic sound and fearless political stance, the band continues to use music as a force for change, raising awareness about the ongoing war in Ukraine and standing against oppression.
Fresh off the sixth leg of their world tour, which spanned 65 gigs across 64 cities in Europe, Asia, North and South America, Nogu Svelo! has not only brought their music to a global audience but also raised $100,000 for Ukraine through their performances.
A Legacy of Resistance and Musical Innovation
With a career spanning 35 years, Nogu Svelo! has built a cult following since their beginnings in 1988 as part of the famous Moscow Rock Laboratory. The band has released 16 full-length albums, 71 official music videos, and has won multiple awards across Russia and Europe, including MTV Russia’s Best Soundtrack Award.
While Nogu Svelo! originally gained recognition in Russia, the band is now fully based in the U.S., delivering English-language versions of their biggest hits alongside brand-new material recorded with their American lineup.
Frontman Max Pokrovskiy—the band’s lead singer, bassist, and principal songwriter—has been an outspoken critic of Vladimir Putin’s regime for years. Due to his support for Alexei Navalny and his unwavering anti-war stance, he has been banned from performing in Russia. Since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Pokrovskiy has released ten powerful anti-war anthems (“We Don’t Need War,” “Russia, Go Home!”, “Ukraine”...) were included in the album “Amputation”.
Art as Activism: Global Recognition for Nogu Svelo!
Beyond their musical success, Nogu Svelo! has been recognized for their politically charged music videos, which have won multiple international awards. Their recent works, “Prison Romance” and “Happy New Year, My Son,” have been celebrated at film festivals such as:
● DOC LA: Los Angeles Documentary Film Festival
● Los Angeles Cinematography Awards (LACA)
● Cinema World Fest Awards
● New York State International Film Festival
Music with a Mission: Humanitarian Efforts
In addition to their musical activism, Nogu Svelo! has actively fundraised for Ukraine through various efforts, including:
● Raising funds for World Unite for Ukraine via an online concert.
● Supporting a refugee shelter in Tbilisi, Georgia.
● Participating in the GCI Planet Charity Event: Peace, Music, and Art Soiree.
● Raising funds for two ambulances for Ukraine during their European tour via the charity Zeilen van Vrijheid.
● Contributing to the purchase of a mobile hospital for Ukraine through a charity talk show in Cyprus.
● Supporting a children’s hospice in Ukraine during a performance in Amsterdam.
In August 2023, Nogu Svelo! performed at the first independent anti-war film festival, AWIIFF, playing a powerful open-air concert for over 1,000 people in Estonia.
A Call to Action Through Music
Nogu Svelo! continues to stand against war, censorship, and tyranny, using their music as a rallying cry for freedom. As the world watches the ongoing conflict, the band remains dedicated to spreading their message of resistance and unity through the most powerful medium they know—music.

About:
Brother Jacob is a proud Chicago native, blues artist, radio host, and cultural preservationist whose performances blend the soul of gospel with the electric grit of Chicago blues. Born and raised on the city’s South Side, he fell in love with the blues as a child listening to WVON-AM’s Pervis Spann “The Blues Man” in the midnight hours. That deep musical foundation sparked a lifelong calling that would evolve into a unique voice on stage, over the airwaves, and in the city’s cultural conversations.
He began his professional journey through the Blues in the Schools program, performing at the Chicago Blues Festival under the mentorship of Deitra Farr. Over the years, Brother Jacob has become a familiar face on the scene, not just as a guest vocalist or sit-in performer, but as a frontman building a body of work with his own band and his own voice.
His music carries a spiritual intensity, rooted in storytelling and tradition, and driven by a mission to connect, uplift, and preserve. Brother Jacob delivers blues with reverence and revival.

Introduced to electronic music in the early 2000’s, after experimenting with a variety of instruments, Johnny was inspired by the boom of the electronic music scene during the 2010s to start producing himself. Johnny began crafting tracks of his own, blending inspiration from across the genre’s diverse subcultures, although always with an affinity to Chicago’s house music.
Having released his debut EP, Johnny has honed a bright, uplifting sound defined by feel-good energy and cheery vibes. His EP, “ID” is out on all streaming services
Born and raised in the Chicagoland area, Nightshift is a young and upcoming house and techno DJ. His journey began during his freshman year of college, when a roommate introduced him to the art of DJing—a moment that sparked a lasting passion for dance music and club culture.
Since then, Nightshift has cultivated a deep appreciation for the many realms of electronic music, channeling his influences into sets that balance groove, grit, and atmosphere. Blending elements of hardgroove, club, and indie dance, he crafts high-energy performances that move seamlessly between underground intensity and melodic euphoria.

Born and raised in Chicagoland, DJ BLIX (Griffin Tome) spins minimal, raw techno with an emphasis on layering and deep bass. His tight, clinical mixing style allows tracks to speak while delicately juggling multiple decks at once. About:
The Bad Sneakers Orchestra is a tribute band formed in 2010 by Chicago bassist Paul Martin with an ambitious mission statement: to faithfully recreate the music of Steely Dan live, as represented on their classic albums. This goal necessitated a very large 14-piece ensemble, so that multiple keys and guitar parts, intricate vocal harmonies, and rich horn textures could be realized. After 10+ years of performances (with time off for Covid) the band is at its’ peak, offering the signature Fagen/Becker compositions with a casual aplomb and precision. (They make it look easy. It’s not.) And despite the fastidious attention paid to the recorded material, the members inevitably bring their individual voiceprints to bear within the framework of a cover tune.
A number of Chicago legends have guest starred with the Sneakers over the years, including fusion guitarists Ernie Denov, Chris Siebold, and Mike Pinto, vocalists Mike Harvey (who appeared on 2 Steely Dan albums and a Donald Fagen solo album), Cheryl Wilson (Peabo Bryson, Bertie Higgins), gospel sensation Tina Crawley, and saxophonist Steve Eisen. The charter members are top-drawer Chicago musicians, with decades of experience performing with some of the greatest names in the music industry. The current roster of regular members reads as follows:
Stevie Robinson Lead vocalist
Neal Alger Guitars
Mike Pinto Guitars
Kent Wehman Keys
Carter Luke Keys
Paul Martin Bass, Musical Director
Neal Wehman Drums
Kirk Garrison Trumpet
John Mose Trombone
John Bowes Tenor/Alto Sax
Tim McNamara Bari/Tenor Sax
Gayle Bisesi Background Vocals
Ameerah Tatum Lead/background vocals
Maggie Bynum Lead/background vocals

About:
“Lullaby For The World”
New Album Release Tour
“Prepare to be mesmerized on many levels” - Boston.com
World-renowned cellist and composer Ian Maksin will release his new album, “Lullaby For The World”, on November 13, 2025. This moving collection of lullabies from around the globe are reimagined through Maksin’s singular artistry and delivered as an important message of love, peace, and unity in an era marked by turbulence.
“To me, a lullaby is a symbol of parental love and proof that peace can be transmitted from one person to another through music. Given the state of the world right now, I believe we all need a lullaby to regain the peace we so desperately need,” says Maksin. Beyond their healing ability, Maksin sees lullabies as archetypal songs that carry our collective musical DNA through generations.
“Lullaby For The World,” Maksin’s eighth career album, features ten traditional lullabies in languages including Farsi, Hindi, Finnish, Kyrgyz, Japanese, French, Ukrainian, Armenian, and Ladino, alongside four original instrumental lullabies composed by Maksin. With each track, Maksin reworks ancient melodies with the resonance of a single cello, using loop pedal layering, octave effects, and ambient delay to create his signature “one-man orchestra” technique. The result is a sonic mosaic that feels both intimate and expansive with deep cello vibrations engaging listeners on a visceral level and transcending linguistic barriers.
Every lullaby on the album carries a culturally rich story. “Jhoola Jhoole,” a devotional song Maksin first encountered in a Krishna temple in New Delhi, became a centerpiece after his travels to India and the Himalayas earlier this year. During a recent tour in Armenia, the birthplace of his mother, Maksin discovered “Ari Im Sokhag,” a hauntingly beautiful and minimalistic traditional piece he describes as one of the most stirring moments on the album.
Often described as a “musical citizen of the world,” Maksin has built his career by blending classical training with a passion for cultural exploration. He has performed across continents, learning traditional songs in their native lands and bringing them into his ever-evolving repertoire. With “Lullaby For The World,” Maksin continues this lifelong mission of unity through music.
About Ian Maksin
Ian Maksin is a cellist, composer, arranger and multilingual vocalist whose artistry defies borders. Known for his soulful blend of classical, world, and contemporary sounds, he has performed across the globe, infusing each project with stories, traditions, and voices of the cultures he explores.
Born into a multi-cultural family in the former USSR, Maksin began playing guitar and piano at age three and cello at age six at the School for Gifted Children in Leningrad. At 16 years-old he ventured to the US to continue studies at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. After working for many years in the classical genre including a three-year tenure with the New World Symphony in Miami, Maksin took a more diverse musical path, including playing rock, blues, jazz and world music.
For the last ten or so years Maksin has been touring as a solo artist performing more than one hundred and fifty concerts a year on all continents including a number of free concerts for school children in different countries. He has also been donating a portion of the tour proceeds to different charities helping refugees and families in countries affected by war.

About:
We are the Cat Gaddis Project - an awesome Blues and R&B Band with talented Chicago area musicians.
Cat Gaddis Project performs an incredible live show with a core line-up of lead singer Cat Gaddis and tight rhythm section with awesome guitar, bass, drums & keyboards. Cat has played with Wayne Cochran and other bands from the past. We recently added a 3-piece horn section with saxophone, trombone, & trumpet - all are great musicians. See links below.
https://thecatgaddisproject.com/home
https://thecatgaddisproject.com/the-band
The Cat Gaddis Project live performance is a fun experience - with audiences tapping their feet, dancing, and grooving to the music. Cat Gaddis Project (CGP) played 2 shows at the Montrose Saloon earlier this year, and Buddy Guy's Legends on May 16. CGP also performed at the Alley Art Festival in Aurora, IL, Northcenter Town Square in Chicago, and outdoor festivals are great venues for the band. We also recently played at Old Elburn Hall, a BBQ Fest in the summer, and coming to the Epiphany Center for the Arts on Dec 5. The band has been in the studio recording new material; however, most of their repertoire are cover versions of well-known blues and r&b songs !

About:
Luciano's performance takes the audience on a tour of Brazil by presenting a wide variety of Brazilian compositions combined with his own originals. In his Performance Luciano contrasts songs that have rich and complex harmonies and melodies with simple rhythms against songs that have simple harmonies and melodies with very complex rhythms, and the dynamics range from pure solo guitar and voice to the full sound of the rich Brazilian percussion in a fascinating musical way. Luciano released three albums, two of which are original music "Vida De Artista - An Artist's Life" in 2011 and “Sem Palavras – Without Words” in 2015. His 3rd Album is a 'Live Concert" at the prestigious Jazz Showcase. Make no mistake; Luciano has placed his stamp on the Brazilian music scene in Chicago.

About Chicago Immigrant Orchestra:
The Chicago Immigrant Orchestra, originally founded in 1999 by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, emerged as a vibrant expression of the city's rich musical diversity until the end of its initial run in 2004. Helmed at the time by Willy Schwartz, the orchestra brought together musicians from Chicago's immigrant communities, showcasing a global array of musical traditions. Though its initial run ended after 5 years, its influence lingered, leaving an indelible mark on the local music scene.
In 2019, a new chapter unfolded when the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events enlisted guitarist Fareed Haque and oud player Wanees Zarour to revive the orchestra for the 2020 Chicago World Music Festival. Despite the challenges posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic, the orchestra persevered, delivering a lauded virtual concert in September 2020.
Today, the rejuvenated Chicago Immigrant Orchestra comprises a 20-piece ensemble drawn from Chicago's immigrant communities, representing an eclectic mix of musical heritages from across the globe. Under the artistic direction of Haque and Zarour, musicians hailing from the Far East to Western Europe, Africa, and the Americas collaboratively shape the orchestra's musical narrative.
Embracing a fresh perspective, the New Chicago Immigrant Orchestra delves into the interplay between diverse musical traditions, weaving a rich tapestry that celebrates both their shared connections and distinctive differences.

About Neptune's Core:
Neptune's Core is an alternative indie rock band made up of two sets of sisters. The four created the bad-ass group out of Chicago’s thriving indie-rock scene. Jim DeRogits summed it up best on Sound Opinions: "Their age belies the sophistication of the songwriting and instrumentation ... classic alternative era with delicate fragile quiet moments exploding into loud dynamics."
As talented multi-instrumentalists and passionate music fans, they seek to bring their music to life with a love of indie and punk music while having a background in jazz and classical music. And that’s not to mention their heartfelt lyrics and the catharsis when they belt them out.
Jill Hopkins (Metro Chicago and Host of Opus Podcast) says, “Every few years in Chicago as the new wave of rock band makes themselves known, a few rise to the top through a mix of talent, timing, uniqueness, and natural charm. And I have not seen many bands do that as well or as quickly as the women of Neptune’s Core.”
Neptune's Core brings forth new sounds and new emotions with their latest EP, Called Upon (Side Hustle Records).

About Basement Collective:
Born from years of shared history and chance encounters, Basement Collective emerged in 2019 as a progressive-fusion instrumental powerhouse. Founding members Jesse Wade, Sean Alvarez, and Mike Tabor's creative chemistry dates back to their time studying music together at Ball State University starting in 2014. The ensemble’s unique blend of sound was later matured by the addition of the two Evans. Evan Reyes met Mike after coming to a Shure Jazz Orchestra rehearsal early. A quick jam between the two led to the invitation to meet Jesse and Sean. Evan Borkstrom, who plays in a Doors tribute band with Mike’s brother, was invited to collaborate, which soon led to full induction into the group.
Driven by a philosophy of continuous artistic refinement, each rehearsal is used as an opportunity to push for the collaborative creation of unique, intricate, and highly dynamic music. All of their tunes are written together live, through trial-and-error experimentation and relentless artistic examination. The band doesn't believe in "completion," constantly revisiting and layering new rhythmic and harmonic elements to ensure their music possesses its signature richness and density.
The five-piece showcases its masterful orchestrations through a broad sonic spectrum, which includes electrified trumpet, flugelhorn, flute, and saxophone, alongside keys, electric guitar, key bass, synthesizer, and drums. Every bar reveals the continuous push to vary the sonic textures and shift harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic responsibilities among the instruments, creating an immersive, evolving soundscape. Rhythmically, the collective pushes boundaries with mixed meter passages and intricate metric modulations designed to keep the listener perpetually engaged, wondering where “1” is, all while maintaining an undeniable groove. Their music fuses vast knowledge of jazz and classical theory alongside a love for progressive rock and metal elements, evoking a sustained interest in the harmonic tapestry and melodic detail of their work.
The latest activities from Basement Collective surround the fostering of their growing popularity, while producing their next singles, which will soon lead to the culmination of their debut album release.

About White Lucy:
White Lucy is the long-running collaboration between Chicago musicians Micah Boyce and Chase Carson, blending alternative soul, indie rock, and experimental pop into something uniquely their own. Their new album, The Paradise, released on Shuga Records, features collaborations with acclaimed Chicago artists like Sen Morimoto, Wyatt Waddell, and Semiratruth. Backed by some of Chicago’s finest musicians, the band’s live show is both chill and emotionally charged, full of lush keys, rhythmic bass, textured guitars, and lively, expressive vocals. White Lucy’s sound moves effortlessly between groove and introspection—inviting you in, then pulling you deeper with every song.

Chicago based bassist/composer and bandleader, Matt Ulery, has produced and released 16 critically acclaimed albums of all original music under his name. Recent accolades include the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events Esteemed Artist Award in 2021 and the highly prestigious Platform Award from the Walder Foundation in 2024. Known for his sweeping lyricism, unconventional phrase structures, expressionistic emotionalism, Ulery’s music, from small, diverse chamber ensembles to full orchestras, is informed by the entire spectrum of jazz, classical, rock, pop, and folk– specifically American, South American, Balkan, and other European folk styles. He has been performing for 30 years on upright, electric, and brass basses.
Ulery's latest project is dedicated to singing and playing his original, emotionally resonant, lyrically poetic songs with heavies, Katie Ernst, Matt Gold, and Jim Tashjian.

About:
Join Chicago’s own Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre in our beautiful Sanctuary space to get a special first look at (and inside) TROUBLE IN MIND by Monique Haley (River North Dance Chicago, Western Michigan University) and company co-founder Joe Cerqua (Columbia College, American Players Theatre).
Experience TROUBLE IN MIND before it’s finished for its premiere spring 2026. This exciting new work of dance and music is inspired by the song (written by Richard M. Jones, recorded by artists including Sam Cooke, 1961) and play (by Alice Childress, 1955) of the same name. This project continues Monique’s artistic inquiry into the loops of racism, sexism and injustice that shape our society and reunites her with Joe in an exploration of our common humanity.
Don't miss this unique opportunity to turn TROUBLE IN MIND Inside/Out! Inside/Out is our innovative, interactive event series that showcases works in progress and invites you INSIDE the creative process. Each event includes performance of new work-in-the-making, conversation with the artists, audience participation activities, and the opportunity for you to shape the new work with your feedback and input.
