About Chicago Immigrant Orchestra:
The Chicago Immigrant Orchestra, originally founded in 1999 by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, emerged as a vibrant expression of the city's rich musical diversity until the end of its initial run in 2004. Helmed at the time by Willy Schwartz, the orchestra brought together musicians from Chicago's immigrant communities, showcasing a global array of musical traditions. Though its initial run ended after 5 years, its influence lingered, leaving an indelible mark on the local music scene.
In 2019, a new chapter unfolded when the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events enlisted guitarist Fareed Haque and oud player Wanees Zarour to revive the orchestra for the 2020 Chicago World Music Festival. Despite the challenges posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic, the orchestra persevered, delivering a lauded virtual concert in September 2020.
Today, the rejuvenated Chicago Immigrant Orchestra comprises a 20-piece ensemble drawn from Chicago's immigrant communities, representing an eclectic mix of musical heritages from across the globe. Under the artistic direction of Haque and Zarour, musicians hailing from the Far East to Western Europe, Africa, and the Americas collaboratively shape the orchestra's musical narrative.
Embracing a fresh perspective, the New Chicago Immigrant Orchestra delves into the interplay between diverse musical traditions, weaving a rich tapestry that celebrates both their shared connections and distinctive differences.

Event Details
Attend the Opening Reception for Melissa Weber’s exhibit ODE TO COMMON THINGS on Thursday, May 22, from 6:00-9:00 pm.
Melissa Weber’s ODE TO COMMON THINGS invites viewers to reimagine the ordinary, by drawing inspiration from everyday objects. Weber references Chilean poet Pablo Neruda's collection of poems by the same title, in which he expressed profound affection and admiration for everyday objects, highlighting their intrinsic value and the roles they play in our lives.
Weber's sculptures transform familiar objects, such as brick remnants, rocks and cardboard packing materials into subjects of reflection, emphasizing their intrinsic beauty and the narratives they embody. Working primarily with clay, Weber explores the transformation from wet mass to fragile form through fire, creating ceramic arrangements, visual systems and topographies that engage with history and spatial relationships.
Situated within the undercroft of the historic former Church of the Epiphany, an 1885 Richardson Romanesque church, now a vibrant cultural hub—the exhibition integrates the building’s stone walls and wood beams as important components of the artistic narrative. In this context, space itself becomes an object, engaging in dialogue with the sculptures and challenging traditional distinctions between subject and environment. In this setting, Weber explores how themes of transformation and the passage of time mirror the metamorphosis of raw materials into refined forms, encouraging deeper contemplation of material transformation and the ephemeral nature of perception. By elevating the mundane to the revered, ODE TO COMMON THINGS encourages a renewed appreciation for the simple elements of daily life, fostering a deeper connection between the observer and the often-overlooked details that shape our existence.

Attend the opening reception for Marianne Lovink’s exhibit COUNTERWEIGHT on Thursday, May 22, 6:00-9:00pm.
In her latest series of work, Marianne Lovink explores the dynamic relationship between sculptural form and its embellishment. She is fascinated by the visual language of mark making and the limitless expressive potential found in repetitive motifs, which has evolved over millennia. This investigation is deeply influenced by the interplay of positive and negative space, and the tension that arises when a motif both conforms to and resists the sculptural form. This tension engages the viewer and activates the eye, inviting further contemplation. While Lovink’s meticulous craftsmanship, restrained palette, and use of tactile materials remain a consistent element of her practice, she has recently expanded her use of color to provide further visual complexity and enrich the overall composition.

Attend the opening reception for DROWN-PROOFING on Friday, May 23, from 6:00-9:00pm.
To drown-proof is to survive. It is a technique—a learned resilience—that allows one to stay afloat when rescue is uncertain. Taught by the community, it is not just a physical skill but a mindset, a method of endurance that depends on the ability to remain calm in unstable waters.
This exhibition explores the art of holding on and letting go, of adapting to unfamiliar territories, and the ways we sustain ourselves without stability. Drown-Proofing brings together artists from the SAIC community, including staff, graduate, and undergraduate students. The artists navigate shifting cultural, political, and personal landscapes, examining what it means to stay afloat amid adversity. Their works address survival tactics, resistance, and transformation, confronting systems of power that threaten to pull communities under.
How do we teach people to breathe when there is no air? How do we connect past and present, tradition and innovation, homeland and new ground? Through acts of creation, artists in this exhibition reclaim agency, revealing the struggles and triumphs of those who refuse to be submerged.
Drown-Proofing is not just about survival—it is about finding strength in the community, learning to adapt, and discovering new ways to rise. We create not only the means to stay afloat, but also the possibilities of a new way forward.

About Lake Shore Rush:
Lakeshore Rush is an integral part of the Chicago community, the city they call home. Their priority is to present music by living composers and forgotten chamber music masterpieces. Over the past ten years the ensemble made appearances at the Chicago Symphony Center, WFMT – Chicago’s classical radio station, Ear Taxi Festival, Chicago Cultural Center, the PianoForte Foundation, Fulton Street Collective, Garfield Park Conservatory in partnership with the Honnold Foundation, Constellation, and the Thirsty Ears Festival – Chicago’s only classical music street festival. Lakeshore Rush is an active member of New Music Chicago, and has commissioned several works by local established composers.
Their debut album, Lakeshore Rush: Moving Parts, came out on Albany Records TROY 1896 in 2022. The ensemble was featured in Lawrence Axelrod’s album 5X4: Quartets for Various Instruments, released in 2023 on Ravello Records. A review in Gramophone Magazine described their performance as ‘exquisitely rendered’.
The ensemble is currently celebrating its 10th Anniversary Season with a programmatic theme titled “One Small World,” which is both a nod to the ride at Disneyland and a unifying message of peace through understanding. The 10th Anniversary Season features seven concerts in the Chicago area, highlighting composers from each of the seven continents.
This video features Laura McLaughlin, clarinet; Amos Gillespie, saxophone; and Chris Ferrer, cello - 3 of the 6 ensemble members of Lakeshore Rush. This piece was written by Amos Gillespie inspired by the Rockhopper Penguin of Antarctica, in honor of the group's 10th anniversary season. The season, titled "One Small World", was inspired by the ride at Disneyland and its unifying message of peace through understanding. We programmed seven concerts, highlighting composers and themes from each of the seven continents.

About:
Luciano's performance takes the audience on a tour of Brazil by presenting a wide variety of Brazilian compositions combined with his own originals. In his Performance Luciano contrasts songs that have rich and complex harmonies and melodies with simple rhythms against songs that have simple harmonies and melodies with very complex rhythms, and the dynamics range from pure solo guitar and voice to the full sound of the rich Brazilian percussion in a fascinating musical way. Luciano released three albums, two of which are original music "Vida De Artista - An Artist's Life" in 2011 and “Sem Palavras – Without Words” in 2015. His 3rd Album is a 'Live Concert" at the prestigious Jazz Showcase. Make no mistake; Luciano has placed his stamp on the Brazilian music scene in Chicago.

About Guild Literary Complex: "Cocktails & Conversation":
Authors, Eric Charles May (Bedrock Faith) and author, Nancy Johnson (People of Means) are in discussion about craft, their perspectives as two writers of color, career longevity and more specifically the role that Chicago plays as a peripheral "character" in their books. Join us for cocktails and a lively conversation with these two amazing authors in the lovely Chase Garden Gallery.
Both books will be available for sale and signing by the author.
Eric Charles May
Recently retired, Eric Charles May is an associate professor in the Creative Writing program at Columbia College Chicago and the author of the novel Bedrock Faith, the 2021 One Book, One Chicago selection by the Chicago Public Library, and a 2014 Notable African American Title by Publisher’s Weekly. A Chicago native and a former reporter for The Washington Post, May is a past recipient of the Chicago Public Library Foundation’s 21st Century Award, the past board president of the Guild Literary Complex, a member of 2nd Story, a curatorial board member of the Ragdale Foundation, and a selection committee member for the Harold Washington Literary Award. His fiction has also appeared in the magazines Fish Stories, F, Hypertext, Solstice, and We Speak Chicagoese. In addition to his Post reporting, his nonfiction has appeared in Sport Literate, the Chicago Tribune, and the personal essay anthology Briefly Knocked Unconscious by a Low-Flying Duck.
Nancy Johnson
A native of Chicago’s South Side, Nancy Johnson worked for more than a decade as an Emmy-nominated, award-winning television journalist at CBS and ABC affiliates in markets nationwide.
Her debut novel, The Kindest Lie, has been reviewed by The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Los Angeles Times, and is featured on Entertainment Weekly’s Must List. It was a New York Times Editors’ Choice selection and has been named one of the most anticipated books of 2021 by Newsweek, O, the Oprah Magazine, Shondaland, NBC News, Marie Claire, ELLE, The Chicago Tribune, The New York Post, Good Housekeeping,
Parade, Refinery29, and more. Booksellers nationwide selected her novel as an Indie Next pick and librarians chose it for LibraryReads. Nancy’s work has been published in Real Simple and O, The Oprah Magazine, and has received support from the Hurston/Wright Foundation, Tin House, and Kimbilio Fiction.
Her latest book, People of Means, a propulsive novel about a mother and daughter each seeking justice and following their dreams during moments of social reckoning—1960s Nashville and 1992 Chicago.
A graduate of Northwestern University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Nancy lives in downtown Chicago and leads corporate and internal communications for a large health care nonprofit. The Kindest Lie is her first novel.

About DnBiD:
On Friday, May 30th, the DnBiD Chicago crew returns to the beautiful Epiphany Center for an intimate evening of Jungle/Drum+Bass music in the upstairs Sanctuary space. Renan and Stunna proudly present a special edition of ‘Jungle Got Soul’ as they welcome the Chicago debuts of two talented Stateside producers/DJs: Krugah (Brooklyn, NY) and Mister Shifter (Columbus, OH). A pair of leading lights in the fast-paced world of Jungle/Drum+Bass, both Krugah and Mister Shifter have produced and released impressive catalogues of music on some of the scene’s finest imprints and have recently been racking up miles touring the States to rave reviews. Please join us for this special event and we look forward to seeing you on the dance floor!
KRUGAH
Hailing from the streets of Brownsville Brooklyn NY & making beats since 1998, Krugah officially put forth his self-release debut in 2018 entitled “Out The Gate Volume One” which caught the attention of L Double. However, things really picked up when he starting sending his tunes to longtime friend Seekwhence who already had a show on Jungletrain.net called ‘The Continuum.’ From there, Krugah started passing his tunes around to fellow Jungletrain DJ Greenleaf who played them on his show. Next, Toronto’s Rumbleton took notice, who upon hearing them, alerted DJ Frankie Gunns. As a result of these tunes, Frankie launched Gunns Road Music, and also DJ Clear signed Krugah to Sweet Sensi Records. This momentum just keeps going! In 2023 Krugah finally landed on AKO Beatz via AKOism Vol 5 with ‘Nuff Niceness.’
DJ-wise, Krugah is no stranger to being behind the decks. He’s been at this since the age of 10 years old at his dad’s dominoes parties.
Fast forward to today: Krugah broadcasts weekly on Jungletrain.net and simultaneously on Twitch. He’s toured the UK, Canada & US thus far.
MISTER SHIFTER
Since co-founding the original Random Movement duo in 2002 with close friend Mike Richards, Mister Shifter has been a tastemaker of jungle and drum & bass for over two decades.
The early years were spent co-producing music on celebrated labels such as Ireland’s Bassbin, DJ Marky’s Innerground Records, Timeless Recordings, and Breakbeat Science sister-label Orgone. Random Movement’s breakout single “Stars In The Dark” propelled the duo into the International spotlight, with heavy support from the world's biggest DJs.
Later emerging as a solo artist, Mister Shifter landed his debut release on Fanu’s Lightless Recordings in 2015. A string of sought-after releases soon followed, including EPs on J:Kenzo’s Artikal Music UK, Flexout Audio, Dispatch Recordings, Straight Up Breakbeat, and more.
2025 will see Mister Shifter’s most exciting release to date: a forthcoming EP on Over/Shadow, one of the most revered labels in Drum & Bass, and the spiritual successor to the legendary Moving Shadow imprint.
With exciting original music always in the pipeline, and crowd-pleasing DJ sets happening from coast-to-coast, there are no signs of slowing down from this long-time bass-music visionary.

About Indigo x Nudje:
Indigo X Nudje will be an evening of musical exploration and storytelling. We invite You to join us for two sets of original compositions and arrangements all rooted in soul music and storytelling. This show is an extension of Indigo Sessions, a show series founded by Aliyah Jones, meant to celebrate and nurture the artistry of Black Women and Queer artists. Indigo is excited to watch the series evolve with each new space it exists within.
Indigo is a musical collective led by Aliyah Jones. Aliyah Jones is a vocalist, composer, and curator based in Chicago, IL. The importance of music was instilled in her at an early age. Every milestone, celebration, or simple journey to school was scored with anything from the sultry serenades of Whitney Houston to the invigorating bounce of house music. Aliyah began her formal training at the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artist and most recently graduated from the Jazz Studies program at DePaul University. The music of Indigo centers her love of storytelling and exploration, while honoring the traditions of Jazz, RnB, and Neo-Soul.
Trombonist, composer Emma Blau, DJ Nick Davis and Pianist, composer, producer Julius Tucker join forces to create Nudje - an interdisciplinary trio merging live instruments, samples, and genre-blurring soundscapes to create a sonic language that’s as raw and complex as the world we live in. Through a fusion of poetry, news, and groove, we seek to reflect our shared realities and offer listeners a chance to alchemize grief into something transformative. Each performance is an invitation - a nudge - to lean into deeper connection: with our bodies, our communities, and the land we inhabit.

About Joe Gorka:
Chicago-based singer-songwriter Joe Gorka draws from influences such as Gregory Alan Isakov and Justin Vernon to create original music ranging from piano ballads to dynamic guitar-driven folk songs. Since moving to Chicago in 2023, he has made a name for himself in the local singer-songwriter scene, playing well-loved venues such as Schubas Tavern, City Winery, and Uncommon Ground. Joe's debut EP “Evergreen” releases this Spring. Produced by Grammy-nominated producer Rob Genadek (Uptown Sound Recording), the EP features spare but powerful "one voice one instrument" tracks that earn a listener's attention both lyrically and musically. Two singles from the EP, "Wallflowers" and "Shiver" are out now.
About Chris Rawlins:
When you listen to Chris Rawlins it comes as no surprise that he was first a poet before he was a songwriter. The lyrics draw you right into his world of Midwestern landscapes, childhood homes, cities full of shadows, past lovers and dreamlike memories around every turn.
Then you start to pay attention to his relaxed, smooth vocal delivery. His voice is quiet and humble, yet confident, and will ease all the tension around you— and could ease you to sleep if you weren’t so captivated at every word. “Listen carefully, look out for the detail, let the words soothe you, and let the music amaze you” as Americana UK put it after hearing Rawlins’ debut album.
Chris Rawlins was born in Kalamazoo, MI and currently lives in Chicago, IL. He released a debut album in 2019 called Bring on the Rain, recorded and produced with the help of Old Town School of Folk Music songwriter, teacher, and producer, Steve Dawson. Americana UK called the work “a rich and unforgettable first album,” and Divide and Conquer Music states that “Rawlins’ first album is timeless, genre bending, and beautiful. No doubt Rawlins will strum the heartstrings of listeners and become an industry name in to time.”
About Lisa Medina:
Lisa P. Medina’s eclectic debut LP “Wishes” offers bilingual songs for all ages that explore love, motherhood, great joys, deep sorrows, and that mysterious feeling called hope. Discover the soulful voice of this talented singer-songwriter who playfully weaves rich storytelling, folk melodies, and vibrant Latin influences.

About Fernando Jones:
If one word could describe this Chicago Blues Hall of Famer and Keeping the Blues Alive Award winning "creative" named Fernando Jones it would be rare. This multi-instrumentalist started off by playing the Blues on the guitar when he was just four years old. Today, he's still going strong as a bandleader. This world-class, internationally known American Bluesman, educator and songwriter was born to loving Mississippi parents on the Southside of Chicago. Jones is one of a few living African American Bluesmen to have a tribute album of his compositions done by a band on a different continent; Jona's Blues Band of Rome, Italy is the group.
Jones has performed his compositions from basement parties to the University of Hawaii to The Smithsonian Institute to the Conservatory of Music in Pescara, Italy to nightclubs in Havana, Cuba. Here is a sample of his scholarly writing in the Journal of Popular Music Studies and awards. In January 2020, the National Association of Music Merchants invited him to host a lecture on the impact of Blues Pedagogy. As a lecturer Fernando Jones has established Blues Camps for youths on the continents of Asia, Europe, North America and the Caribbean island of Cuba. Here's an interview on him done by The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library.
As evident of his work(s) demonstrate; here’s why Fernando Jones, a Keeping the Blues Alive Award recipient and Chicago Blues Hall of Fame member is worth investing in as a performer, lecturer and/or an artist-in-residence. Fernando Jones is original in his approach to music with a focus on the Blues and the performing arts.

This special collaboration brings together two pillars of Chicago’s Latin dance community. KR Dance Studio has become a home for dancers of all levels to grow, train, and connect—while The Mambo Revival has spent the last decade building unforgettable salsa socials and curating a community rooted in music, passion, and unparalleled social dancing. About Vopli Vidopliassova:
40 Years from Ukraine to the World – Vopli Vidoplyassova 2025 North American Tour
For four decades, Vopli Vidoplyassova (VV) has been Ukraine’s ultimate cultural ambassador, with anthems sung by heart by every Ukrainian. As the first Ukrainian band to tour internationally and gain global fame, their music has crossed borders, bringing the spirit of Ukraine to the world through their explosive fusion of punk, rock, and folk.
From the Soviet underground to global festival stages, VV has shaped the sound of generations and remains a symbol of Ukrainian identity and resistance. They made history performing at WOMAD, Sziget, Montreux Jazz Festival, Woodstock Poland, and Rock am Ring. Over the years, VV has collaborated with world music icons like Goran Bregović, Manu Chao, and Khaled, continuously pushing boundaries. Their influence is undeniable—Eugene Hütz of Gogol Bordello calls them his musical teachers, a legacy now featured in a recent Gogol Bordello documentary.
Beyond his work with Vopli Vidoplyassova, Oleg Skrypka is also the founder of Kraina Mriy, one of Ukraine’s oldest and most influential festivals. A platform for cultural exchange and the development of new
Ukrainian artists, Kraina Mriy has also become one of the most credible charity organizations supporting hospitals and other vital Ukrainian causes.
Now, after almost a decade, VV is returning to North America for an explosive tour celebrating 40 years of music, resilience, and cultural revolution! Experience their legendary hits, including Весна (Spring), Танці (Dances), Галя, ходи (Halia, Come Here), Країна мрій (Land of Dreams), Любов (Love), and День народження (Birthday)—and be ready for musical surprises!
This tour is more than music—it’s a mission. 100% of the proceeds from charity auctions during each show will go directly to support Ukraine, including medical aid and humanitarian relief through Kraina Mriy.

About Freddie Dixon:
Freddie is the embodiment of the Chicago Blues. The 2nd son of the world-famous 7th Son, Willie Dixon, Freddie has been surrounded by the Blues since the day he was born. His father is a blues legend as a song writer, producer, and musician. Willie was at the helm at Chess Records for many of the sides cut in the 1950’s, 1960’s and into the 1970’s.
Freddie began his blues career learning his chops playing with a number of musicians in south side blues clubs. He was soon hired to play in his father’s band, The Chicago Blues All-Stars and traveled around the world spreading the gospel of the blues.
The torch was handed to Freddie in the early 1990’s when his father passed away. Since then, Freddie has continued as a blues ambassador playing to crowds from Europe to Australia as well as locally in Chicago. In 2020 Freddie, along with Chicago Blues legends John Watkins and Maurice John Vaughan produced a 2 disc CD called “3x3,” which is available at most on line retail outlets.
Freddie is a member of the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame and currently resides in Chicago with his wife Linda.

Attend the opening reception for Bethany Cordero’s WEAVING AMBIGUITY on Friday, July 11, from 6:00-9:00pm.
Weaving Ambiguity, a new solo exhibition by interdisciplinary artist Bethany Cordero, traces the evolving contours of identity through a material-based inquiry into impermanence. Cordero’s practice centers on the ambiguity and tension found within transitional relationships, particularly those shaped by intergenerational dynamics. Her sculptural works and drawings explore how power, dependence, and autonomy shift over time, influenced by age, care, expectation, and inevitability. Through the lens of existential reflection, she examines how these relational structures evolve, dissolve, and re-form—revealing the fluid, impermanent nature of being. Working with materials such as bronze, clay, steel, and fiber, Cordero chooses processes that embody transformation: casting, welding, and weaving serve not only as techniques but as metaphors for becoming, unraveling, and adaptation. These materials are pushed to reflect the emotional and physical realities of time—resilient yet susceptible, enduring yet mutable. In this way, the work engages in a conversation between form and meaning, where materiality echoes the fragile balance between what is solid and what slips away. The sculptures and drawings in this exhibition function as studies in impermanence—marking the quiet, continual shifts we experience as we move through different phases of identity, responsibility, and relational connection. Each piece is a meditation on the slow choreography of change: how roles reverse, how the body alters, how power is given and taken back, how memory and experience shape perception. There is a constant negotiation between holding on and letting go. Ultimately, Cordero’s work contemplates the inevitability of change as a fundamental condition of existence—one that reshapes our identities, relationships, and sense of self over time. Through material and form, she invites reflection on the passage of time, the complexity of care, and the universal transience that defines what it means to be in relation with oneself and others.

Event Details
Attend the opening reception for Renee Robbins’ WUNDERKAMMER on Friday, July 11, from 6:00-9:00pm.
Renowned artist Renee Robbins presents WUNDERKAMMER, a captivating series of paintings that explore the awe-inspiring connections between the natural world, the cosmos, and our imaginations. Drawing inspiration from both the subatomic and the astronomical, Robbins invites viewers on a journey into a universe of discovery, where the boundaries between the real and the imagined blur.
WUNDERKAMMER, meaning "cabinet of curiosities," features a collection of works that evoke wonder and fascination, much like the eclectic curiosities of an early naturalist’s cabinet. Through a range of vivid imagery—spanning from hybrid flora and fauna to celestial bodies and deep-sea creatures —Robbins creates a luminous, abstract world filled with organic forms, dots, circles, and hieroglyphic-like marks. Her works span a diverse range of subjects, including cells, flowering botanicals, aquatic species, and constellations. All of these subjects are woven together in a dynamic circular format which echoes the shape of a cell, planet, or target.
Each painting in the WUNDERKAMMER series offers a fresh perspective on the complexity and beauty of the natural world, while leaving space for personal interpretation and reflection. Robbins combines the tangible with the imagined, expanding our awareness of nature's wonders and encouraging a sense of magic that resides both in the observable and in the realm of the fantastical.
Presented in Epiphany’s intimate Sacristy Gallery - sacred space for the historic former church, the exhibition promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of the unseen connections that bind humanity, nature, and the cosmos, offering visitors an opportunity to reflect on the diverse forms and mysteries that shape our universe.

About Smooth Rogers:
Smooth Rogers is the brainchild of Chicago-based musician, Zac Bron. Combining elements of alt-rock, synth-pop, and funk, Smooth Rogers takes you on a journey through lush soundscapes and danceable grooves. Zac grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, moved to Chicago in 2018, and quickly became involved in the music scene there. After playing in various bands and leading other solo projects, the idea to start Smooth Rogers came about in 2021. Since then, Zac has released two albums, with a third on the way, set to release in the fall of 2025. While Zac is the primary songwriter and instrumentalist in the studio, they are joined by a group of musicians at their shows that take the songs into new sonic territory.

Attend the opening reception for the American Tapestry Biennial XV on Friday, August 1, from 6:00-9:00pm.
Since 1996, ATA has sponsored a biennial, juried exhibition known as the American Tapestry Biennial. This juried exhibition highlights the best of contemporary hand-woven tapestry featuring work by artists from across the U.S. exploring the many artistic possibilities of the medium. Work in the exhibition includes not only artists who work within more traditional definitions of tapestry but also those artists whose work expands upon the core principles of the medium as it explores new techniques and processes.
The exhibition is accompanied by the Teitelbaum Award which recognizes two outstanding contributions to the field. Lialia Kuchma, a Chicago artist living and working in Ukrainian Village, was awarded first place for her work titled, Ukraine War #4, which reflects upon her home-country’s struggle. Dance Doyle received second place for her work, Tempest, which breaks from the traditional rectangular format of the woven structure and materials as it contains various objects including necklaces, feathers, and other materials.
About the Jurors
The jurors for the exhibition are Crystal Gregory, Associate Professor of Fibers at the School of Art and Visual Studies, University of Kentucky, and Poppy Delta Dawn, Assistant Professor of Fibers at the University of Kansas, Lawrence. Crystal Gregory is a sculptor whose work investigates the intersections between textile and architecture. Poppy Delta Dawn is an artist, writer, and teacher making work about her world and the communication between modernity and cultural and traditional making - primarily with textiles and fiber.
About the Artists
Selected artists include: Ellen Athens, Ashley Bradley, Bonni Brooks, Elizabeth Buckley, Barbara Burns, Martha Christian, Jodi Colella, Deborah Corsini, Nancy Crampton, Deborah Davis, Dance Doyle, Alex Friedman, Janette Gross, Barbara Heller, Susan Iverson, Judit Eszter Kárpáti, Lialia Kuchma, Annie Landry, Mary Lane, Danielle Lopez, Rebecca Mezoff, Janet Moore, Bennie Pabst, Eve Pearce, Pamela Penney, Ellen Ramsey, Helena Richardson, Jennifer Sargent, Tommye Scanlin, Rowen Schussheim-Anderson, Kathy Spoering, Vicki Stone, Annemarie Suglio, David van Buskirk, Katie Vota, Sue Weil, and Adrienne Weiss.

About Smiley Tillmon Band:
One of the busiest blues outfits in Chicagoland, the Smiley Tillmon Band is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. There’s an obvious reason why the veteran guitarist’s booking schedule is so jam-packed: Smiley knows how to have a good time and makes sure his audience does too. After 55 years on the local blues scene, Tillmon serves up the blues and soul standards that people never seem to stop craving, his rich vocals and fluid guitar backed by a band that keeps his grooves tight and right.
Born Moses Tillmon in rural Jefferson County, Georgia, Smiley grew up on a hearty musical diet of gospel, country, and a little blues. His mother moved to Fort Lauderdale when he was ten; there he was exposed to calypso music, adding up to a singular list of influences. Tillmon took up guitar and was good enough by the dawn of the ‘60s to back Miami R&B singer Billy Miranda in the studio. He joined Sammy Ambrose & the Afro-Beats, a calypso-oriented band, touring from Canada to New York. Smiley bid the Afro-Beats adieu in 1962 and moved to Chicago. There he established himself on the blues circuit, playing with Billy “The Kid” Emerson, Denise LaSalle, and other South Side luminaries until he opted for a day job in 1977.
Upon his 2007 retirement, Smiley reverted to full-time musical status. He joined forces with bassist Tom Rezetko, and they’ve been inseparable onstage ever since. Kate Moss shares guitar duties with Tillmon; married to another blues guitar standout, Nick Moss, Kate’s sound is heavily influenced by Freddie King and Magic Sam (she fell in love with the blues at age 21 when she met Buddy Guy, and she’s shared stages with Buddy, Jimmy Johnson, Eddie Shaw, and Lurrie Bell, to name just a few). Drummer George Baumann completes one of the Windy City’s toughest blues combos, one that’ll keep you smiling from ear to ear. - Bill Dahl
