About:
Luciano's performance takes the audience on a tour of Brazil by presenting a wide variety of Brazilian compositions combined with his own originals. In his Performance Luciano contrasts songs that have rich and complex harmonies and melodies with simple rhythms against songs that have simple harmonies and melodies with very complex rhythms, and the dynamics range from pure solo guitar and voice to the full sound of the rich Brazilian percussion in a fascinating musical way. Luciano released three albums, two of which are original music "Vida De Artista - An Artist's Life" in 2011 and “Sem Palavras – Without Words” in 2015. His 3rd Album is a 'Live Concert" at the prestigious Jazz Showcase. Make no mistake; Luciano has placed his stamp on the Brazilian music scene in Chicago.

About:
Ellie Rui 瑞 is a Chicago-based jazz drummer from Columbus, Ohio. She moved to Chicago shortly after graduating from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in the Spring of 2024. At Oberlin, Rui 瑞 studied with NEA Jazz Master Billy Hart for all 4 years.
Her compositions can be characterized by her percussive approach, even when writing for other instruments. She generally follows a jazz form but her chord changes and rhythms are intentionally non-standard. In her performances, she often shares parts of her life story in the hope of bringing people together. Rui 瑞 likes to be around musicians other people that remind her of the kind of human being she wants to be.
Notable performances by Rui 瑞 since moving to Chicago include: recording with Pulitzer Prize winner, Susie Ibarra, as a member of Ibarra’s CHAN Percussion Ensemble; playing with Colin Heshmat and Emma Dayhuff at Merriman’s Playhouse in South Bend, IN; playing with Chicago-based artist Elysia Marie as a member of her band; playing music at Holy Ground Sessions at Healthy Hood Chicago; and doing a feature set with her group The Ellie Rui 瑞 Ensemble for Millie Ahearn’s Jam Session, and again on a Saturday evening at Clara.
Rui 瑞’s upcoming projects include releasing her first album next year, recording her second album this winter, and continuing to work with her ensembles and bands in Chicago!

About:
Brother Jacob is a proud Chicago native, blues artist, radio host, and cultural preservationist whose performances blend the soul of gospel with the electric grit of Chicago blues. Born and raised on the city’s South Side, he fell in love with the blues as a child listening to WVON-AM’s Pervis Spann “The Blues Man” in the midnight hours. That deep musical foundation sparked a lifelong calling that would evolve into a unique voice on stage, over the airwaves, and in the city’s cultural conversations.
He began his professional journey through the Blues in the Schools program, performing at the Chicago Blues Festival under the mentorship of Deitra Farr. Over the years, Brother Jacob has become a familiar face on the scene, not just as a guest vocalist or sit-in performer, but as a frontman building a body of work with his own band and his own voice.
His music carries a spiritual intensity, rooted in storytelling and tradition, and driven by a mission to connect, uplift, and preserve. Brother Jacob delivers blues with reverence and revival.

Event Details
Attend the opening reception for Jordan Porter-Woodruff’s The Children Play Games on Sunday, December 14th, from 2:00-5:00pm.
In The Children Play Games, the artist explores the fragile relationship between play, perception, and imagination through a lens that intertwines past memories, present realities, and future possibilities. The show invites viewers to reflect on how children engage with their world in an age where Artificial Intelligence and deep Internet culture increasingly shape their experiences and understanding. By juxtaposing traditional play with AI-infused elements the artist creates a dialogue about the shifting boundaries of authenticity and creativity in childhood.
Today’s children grow up alongside intelligent machines while immersed in an endless, unfiltered digital stream. Their minds are trained to scroll and react, often at the expense of slower, tactile forms of play that once nurtured fine motor skills, independent thought, and imaginative problem-solving. Algorithmic feeds promise limitless information but leave little room for open-ended discovery, offering access without the depth of true exploration.
Artificial Intelligence sharpens this dilemma by performing acts of invention that once belonged to the developing mind. From generating pictures to completing stories, AI delivers finished creations that bypass the frustration—and growth—of making something from nothing. When creativity is outsourced to algorithms, children risk becoming consumers of novelty rather than creators of it, spectators to a simulation of imagination that demands nothing of their own.
Against this backdrop, The Children Play Games seeks to reclaim the essential terrain of imagination. Each photograph functions as a portal into a dreamlike, yet critical space where the physical and digital coexist without clear hierarchy. By inviting viewers to step into these constructed realities, the exhibition calls on society at large to consider how we might safeguard environments that sustain curiosity, protect the vital connection between mind and hand, and empower the next generation to shape worlds of their own making rather than surrender to those designed for them.

Event Details
Attend the opening reception for Black Female Presence with Shane-Jahi Jackson on Sunday, December 14th, from 2:00-5:00pm.
The image of Black women in Western Art is one riddled with stereotypes, racial
mythologies, visions of servitude and sexual transgressions.
In 1994, Harvard’s Dubois Institute began a research project which later birthed seven volumes on The Image of the Black in Western Art by Harvard’s scholar Henry Louis Gates and David Bindman. All volumes document in detail the fate of ‘black presence’ in European Art and how it historically served to relegate blackness as the extreme opposite of white superiority.
This exhibition continues in the same vein but removes all references to European Art to focus squarely on the Black female model and not as a tool to reaffirm European representational superiority and Christian morals about the body.
Shane-Jahi Jackson’s, Black Female Presence, evades providing the viewer an instructional manual on how to interpret his series of semi-nude figurative paintings of Black women. His “no comment stance” is a deliberate one that resists the impulse to qualify or explain the why of these paintings. Instead, he demands that the viewer have the same reaction or sentiment of awe and the sublime upon seeing Botticelli’s Renaissance painting on the Birth of Venus for the first time without erotizing the image.
The ensemble of works posits the idea that Black women can also be a portal to the Universal and invites the viewer to leave their cliches, biases and judgement at the door.
Shane-Jahi celebrates these women.

Event Details
Attend the opening reception for Every Man is an Island by Natasha Moustache on Sunday, December 14th, from 2:00-5:00pm.
Metaphysical poet John Donne famously wrote, “No man is an island, entire of itself,” in his 1624 meditation on the interconnectedness of humanity. In Every Man is an Island, artist Natasha Moustache turns this idea inward, asking what it means to exist both within and apart. To belong to a place that embodies solitude and connection at once.
The Seychelles Islands, an archipelago of 115 islands scattered across the Indian Ocean, embody this paradox. In Moustache’s black and white photographs, the island emerges not as a place apart, but as a living communion of body and spirit, humanity and nature, self and divine. Each image becomes a quiet testament to the ways in which life here is interwoven with the elements — water, wind, light, and faith.
Within this constellation of islands, humanity is held tenderly by the microcosm of the islands themselves, a mirror reflecting the vast, interconnected universe beyond.

Event Details
Attend the opening reception for Hope Is the Last Thing by Rebecca Keller on Sunday, December 14th, from 2:00-5:00pm.
The works in this exhibition are inspired by Epiphany Center for the Arts’ history as a church building, especially the dedicatory plaque hung around the corner in the hall. The grey and white text-based paintings are inspired by the plaque’s color and shape. But while these paintings initially evoke banal, cliched, vaguely uplifting “word art” in vacation rentals and hotels, the language in them quickly veers into denser, darker, trickier, more complicated interpretations.
Though intended to seem like ‘old sayings’ all the texts are original. They are inspired by Emily Dickinson’s “Hope is a thing with feathers” and the Greek myth of Pandora, who opened a forbidden chest and allowed all the evils in the world to fly out. Panicked, she slammed the chest closed, shutting the gift of hope inside.
The themes of wings, flight and transcendence are continued in the images of birds and boats. Traditional iconography in Christian churches, such images are metaphors for faith and belief. Here again, tropes associated with lightness and beauty reveal their darker side as the birds (our stand-ins?) are sometimes in danger, or in anguish, and boats drift unmoored, without direction. But others float or fly past, unconcerned and unaware.
These works refer to the difficulty of maintaining hope, and the insistence that we keep trying anyway. They call to mind the pain of distress as well as the possibility of grace.

Event Details
Attend the opening reception for The Language We Create on Sunday, December 14th, from 2:00-5:00pm.
The Language We Create speaks directly to the role of artists in the world of visual communication.
Throughout the diversity of their explorations, these 11 artists, all cohort residents of Chicago Artists Coalition, remain in dialogue with one another. Each work brings its own context, the clear signature of its creator - a story crafted through the artist’s uniquely defined language. These pieces, while distinct, have common threads that link them one to another.
We see a vocabulary built on textures, colors, and shapes, layered with movement and light in the same way nouns, verbs and adjectives are traditionally woven together in prose. These combinations as envisioned by the artist craft their narrative, document their reality.
Language however, is an inherently social tool used to enhance relationships, for expression and connection. While the work is its own being, it asks the viewer to bring their own interpretation to the experience, linking themselves to the piece as well.

What have you forgotten? When you found it or rediscovered it were you happy, sad, annoyed, delighted, regretful? It was once important and then it became forgotten. What is new to you was once forgotten by me. The work on display is a representation of compartmentalizing ideas and memories with no distinct beginning or end.

About:
Imagine if Johnny Cash, Patti Smith, Nick Cave, T-Bone Walker and Bob Dylan got together to write a song for Twin Peaks— that’s Superfrye’s music.
A reverb-drenched guitar sits in the center of the stage. In Superfrye’s hands it becomes the sound of empowerment, rebellion, truth and freedom—wrapped up in storytelling of a folk artist diving headfirst into the struggles of real people; this is raw roots with soul. It bursts with outlaw and outsider energy, yet with full control Superfrye constantly toys with the edges of emotion, from haunting to hilarious and back again. With her vast catalog of originals and covers to draw from in styles from roots to flamenco, R&B to blues, lounge to punk, her songs bring you the sound of the terroir of the places she’s been and years she’s lived, as well as where she’s going next. Come along on the adventure.
Superfrye is an accomplished and innovative performer who has played all over Chicago, solo and with her band Superfrye & The Valiant ’72s. Highlights include a three-year residency at Rojo Gusano in Ravenswood, hosting and building a successful open mic at Artifact Events, as well as being featured with her band on WZRD 88.3 FM.

About Neptune's Core:
Neptune's Core is an alternative indie rock band made up of two sets of sisters. The four created the bad-ass group out of Chicago’s thriving indie-rock scene. Jim DeRogits summed it up best on Sound Opinions: "Their age belies the sophistication of the songwriting and instrumentation ... classic alternative era with delicate fragile quiet moments exploding into loud dynamics."
As talented multi-instrumentalists and passionate music fans, they seek to bring their music to life with a love of indie and punk music while having a background in jazz and classical music. And that’s not to mention their heartfelt lyrics and the catharsis when they belt them out.
Jill Hopkins (Metro Chicago and Host of Opus Podcast) says, “Every few years in Chicago as the new wave of rock band makes themselves known, a few rise to the top through a mix of talent, timing, uniqueness, and natural charm. And I have not seen many bands do that as well or as quickly as the women of Neptune’s Core.”
Neptune's Core brings forth new sounds and new emotions with their latest EP, Called Upon (Side Hustle Records).

Hörtechna is a new event series and artist collective in Chicago focused on showcasing Techno music, building a supportive community, uplifting emerging talent, and reinvigorating the dancefloor. Our high-energy, rhythmic Raw/Hardgroove Techno speaks to the soul and innervates the body. We gather inspiration from old-school to new; from our Detroit forebearers to those who are pushing musical boundaries.
NOTE: We seek to maintain a safe space for all who enter and we stand for mutual respect. Consent is a rule, not a suggestion. In order to keep the VIBES high and the MUSIC in focus, please limit phone and device usage to the areas away from the dancefloor.

DJ Blix
Born and raised in Chicagoland, DJ BLIX (Griffin Tome) spins minimal, raw techno with an emphasis on layering and deep bass. His tight, clinical mixing style allows tracks to speak while delicately juggling multiple decks at once. DJ BLIX constructs his sets like a movie — rising, falling, and shifting in energy, each moment flowing naturally while staying under tight, deliberate control.
quade
quade wants one thing from the dancefloor: pandemonium. Through his time spiraling on dance floors -- to now spiraling on the decks, quade invites you to run through the jungle with him. With fast basslines, intense kicks, and subtle grooves, he rejects stillness, and encourages flailing.
Hören
A performer and music educator, Hören brings a wealth of musical diversity and knowledge to his showmanship on the decks. Drawing from many musical references, Hören delivers an exciting and curated journey to his audiences. His sonic style has been developed with an undercurrent of electrifying rhythms, vocals, and cultural flavors with a primary focus on movement and groove.

About Basement Collective:
Born from years of shared history and chance encounters, Basement Collective emerged in 2019 as a progressive-fusion instrumental powerhouse. Founding members Jesse Wade, Sean Alvarez, and Mike Tabor's creative chemistry dates back to their time studying music together at Ball State University starting in 2014. The ensemble’s unique blend of sound was later matured by the addition of the two Evans. Evan Reyes met Mike after coming to a Shure Jazz Orchestra rehearsal early. A quick jam between the two led to the invitation to meet Jesse and Sean. Evan Borkstrom, who plays in a Doors tribute band with Mike’s brother, was invited to collaborate, which soon led to full induction into the group.
Driven by a philosophy of continuous artistic refinement, each rehearsal is used as an opportunity to push for the collaborative creation of unique, intricate, and highly dynamic music. All of their tunes are written together live, through trial-and-error experimentation and relentless artistic examination. The band doesn't believe in "completion," constantly revisiting and layering new rhythmic and harmonic elements to ensure their music possesses its signature richness and density.
The five-piece showcases its masterful orchestrations through a broad sonic spectrum, which includes electrified trumpet, flugelhorn, flute, and saxophone, alongside keys, electric guitar, key bass, synthesizer, and drums. Every bar reveals the continuous push to vary the sonic textures and shift harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic responsibilities among the instruments, creating an immersive, evolving soundscape. Rhythmically, the collective pushes boundaries with mixed meter passages and intricate metric modulations designed to keep the listener perpetually engaged, wondering where “1” is, all while maintaining an undeniable groove. Their music fuses vast knowledge of jazz and classical theory alongside a love for progressive rock and metal elements, evoking a sustained interest in the harmonic tapestry and melodic detail of their work.
The latest activities from Basement Collective surround the fostering of their growing popularity, while producing their next singles, which will soon lead to the culmination of their debut album release.

Now with their 6-piece group, Vision in the Rhythm will be debuting songs from their upcoming record Fishin in the River. The band never ceases to have uplifting & energetic performances balancing humor & soul for a cross-genre party.

White Lucy’s sound moves effortlessly between groove and introspection—inviting you in, then pulling you deeper with every song.

About:
Richiman and Groove Nice are an American-style blues band from Seoul, South
Korea, bringing the heart and soul of traditional blues to audiences around the
world. Originally formed in 2018 as The Richiman Trio, the band represented the
Korea Blues Society at the 2019 International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis,
Tennessee. While performing there, frontman Richiman experienced the power
of authentic American blues firsthand and knew it was his life’s calling.
“We are a blues band from South Korea that wants to play the American style of
blues. We grew up in Korea but fell in love with American blues.”
In 2021, the band evolved into Richiman and Groove Nice, replacing their bassist
and developing a fresh, groove-oriented sound designed to get audiences
moving. They returned to the IBC in 2022, where they made history as the first
Korean blues band ever to reach the Top 5 Finals, standing out among hundreds
of performers from around the world.
Their dynamic performances and authentic style have earned them opportunities
to share the stage with blues legend Buddy Guy and several other major blues
artists during their shows in Chicago and across the United States—a testament
to their growing reputation in the international blues community.
Richiman and Groove Nice released an EP titled “Memphis Special: One Take
Live,” a raw and powerful recording of their IBC finals set. They are currently
working on their debut full-length album, recorded at the iconic Royal Recording
Studio in Memphis, where Al Green and countless soul greats crafted their
timeless hits.
Engaging, masterful, and full of funk and soul, Richiman and Groove Nice deliver
performances that move both the heart and the feet. Witness them once, and
they’re sure to become your new favorite blues band—leaving every audience
transformed and uplifted by the universal power of the blues

About The Transference:
The Transference is an indie rock/power pop band from Chicago. Dark themes get paired with playful lines and reflections on inter- and inner-connectedness. Because if we’re going down, we might as well have some fun and love people as best we can.
Initially started as a handful of demo songs written in the middle of the pandemic after the breakup of a previous band, The Transference was founded by singer/songwriter/keyboard player Laura Hollingsworth and former bandmates Alex Karan (drums) and MJ Johnson (bass).
Featuring evocative lyrics layered over pop rock rhythms, the band's pop sound doesn't lack for complexity or attention to detail. Lush harmonies and melodic lines from lead guitarist Justin Wheeler and vocalist Andrea Santiago weave in and out between synths, vibraphone, harmonium, pedal steel, and more. Like an easter egg hunt; the band's playful lyrics and attention to detail make songs worth a second listen.
About Stray Vines:
Original rock band based in the Chicago area making music influenced by classic rock, Americana and grunge.

Attend the closing reception for Every Man is an Island by Natasha Moustache on Saturday, February 14th, from 5:00-8:00pm.

Attend the closing reception for Black Female Presence with Shane-Jahi Jackson on Saturday, February 14th, from 5:00-8:00pm.
The image of the Black woman in Western Art is one riddled with stereotypes, racial mythologies, visions of servitude and sexual transgressions. In 1994, Harvard’s Dubois Institute began a research project which later birthed seven volumes on The Image of the Black in Western Art by Harvard’s scholar Henry Louis Gates and David Bindman. All volumes document in detail the fate of ‘black presence’ in European Art. This exhibition of abstract figurative paintings continue in the same vein but removes all references to European Art to focus squarely on the Black female model but not as a tool to reaffirm white superiority and Christian morals.

Attend the closing reception for Jordan Porter-Woodruff’s The Children Play Games on Saturday, February 14th, from 5:00-8:00pm.

Attend the closing reception forThe Language We Create on Saturday, February 14th, from 5:00-8:00pm.

Event Details
Attend the closing reception for Hope Is the Last Thing by Rebecca Keller on Saturday, February 14th, from 5:00-8:00pm.
They call to mind the pain of distress as well as the possibility of grace.

nova, celebrating the timeless artistry of composer, pianist, and songwriter Antonio Carlos
Jobim. Known for his elegant melodies and cool, understated rhythms, Jobim helped transform

About:
If you were around during Chicago’s underground House Music movement or Rave scene in the late 80’s and early 90’s, then you’ll be utterly familiar with the name Julio Bishop. Whether from appearing weekly on some of the hottest party flyers throughout the Midwest or because you had a copy of his now infamous mix tape, “Love Nation” sold out of all the local record stores, the name Julio Bishop is synonymous with jacking dance floors since 1987.
Getting his start as a dancer and DJ in Chicago’s nightclubs and warehouses, but soon expanding his influence; from NYC to LA, to the beaches of Miami, Puerto Rico and Mexico, Germany and Sicily, Julio has been bringing his deep, mystifying grooves to the world for over 3 decades. His intimate knowledge of classic Afro-Latin and Jazz, , as well as his acquired proficiency of Disco, Electronica, Club & Deep House takes his sets far outside the realm of what is attainable by a greener selection of DJ’s.
Funneling his talents into the studio in the early 2000’s, Julio helped launch RealDEEP Recordings, along side label partner Brian Cullen (aka Bjak) where, together they paved the way to further coproductions and solo projects on labels such as Deep Explorer Music (Madrid) and Eargasmic Recordings (Chicago).
With more releases on the way and a selection of upcoming gigs scheduled between Chicago. Puerto Rico, LA & Hawaii, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for what’s to come next from this proved House Music veteran.

About:
Founded in 2023 by Chicago musician and philanthropist Rob Stepen, The Generations blends nostalgic 70s, and 80s rock with modern influences. Their concert set list blends classic rock covers with some of their originals. Their debut album, Alternate View, released in October of 2024, is the product of Stepen’s journey through the 1980s Chicago rock scene. After recording two tracks in 1985, “Have You Seen My Heart” and “Your Way,” the tapes were lost for decades until rediscovered in early 2023. The tracks were restored by Steve Albini and Taylor Hales at Electrical Audio, mastered by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Service, and pressed at Third Man Records in Detroit. The album blends the energy of 1980s rock with a modern sensibility, creating a sound that resonates with both nostalgic and contemporary audiences.

About:
Join Chicago’s own Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre in our beautiful Sanctuary space to get a special first look at (and inside) TROUBLE IN MIND by Monique Haley (River North Dance Chicago, Western Michigan University) and company co-founder Joe Cerqua (Columbia College, American Players Theatre).
Experience TROUBLE IN MIND before it’s finished for its premiere spring 2026. This exciting new work of dance and music is inspired by the song (written by Richard M. Jones, recorded by artists including Sam Cooke, 1961) and play (by Alice Childress, 1955) of the same name. This project continues Monique’s artistic inquiry into the loops of racism, sexism and injustice that shape our society and reunites her with Joe in an exploration of our common humanity.
Don't miss this unique opportunity to turn TROUBLE IN MIND Inside/Out! Inside/Out is our innovative, interactive event series that showcases works in progress and invites you INSIDE the creative process. Each event includes performance of new work-in-the-making, conversation with the artists, audience participation activities, and the opportunity for you to shape the new work with your feedback and input.

About:
In collaboration with Purpose Over Pain, the Negaunee Music Institute at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra presents this special concert celebrating eight years of the Notes for Peace program.
Launched in 2018, Notes for Peace empowers Chicago families who have lost loved ones to gun violence to compose, record and perform original songs of tribute. Join Civic Orchestra of Chicago Fellows and the families of Purpose Over Pain, together with guest artists from the U.K.-based organization Irene Taylor Trust, Chicago-area vocalists and CSO Artist-in-Residence Joyce DiDonato, for an inspiring evening that demonstrates the healing power of music.
With guidance from the Civic Fellows, guest teaching artists from the U.K.-based Irene Taylor Trust and professional vocalists, parents compose, perform live and professionally record their music, which is then featured alongside family photos and lyrics on notesforpeace.org.
Performers:
Families from Purpose Over Pain
Fellows of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago
Musicians from the Irene Taylor Trust
Guest Vocalists
